Career Fair

ACA/NE held a Career Fair at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel in Marlborough, Massachusetts on  April 26, 2017.

The goal for this event was to bring vocational and private career school students and future job seekers together with HVAC contractors and vendors,

The Career Fair gave students an opportunity to explore the full spectrum of career opportunities within the HVAC industry, including contractors, distributors and manufacturers, all in one place and at one time.

The ACA/NE Career Fair provided a platform for both those who are looking for a new job, and for those who own businesses or companies that have positions open for new employees. The event increased awareness by career services staff, principals, guidance counselors, and teachers of the career opportunities available in the HVAC industry.

Good News!

Over a year ago ACA/NE began working to correct a problem relating to a one-time Board of Plumbers and Gas Fitters requirement that certain gas appliance manufacturers include a statement on their product literature that indicated that appliances sold in Massachusetts had to be installed by licensed plumbers or gas fitters.

Working with the law firm Kenney & Sams, P.C., ACA/NE first sent the Board a demand letter with a request that any such requirement imposed be changed to reflect the revised policy negotiated in 2013 between ACA/NE and the Board.

The Board responded by indicating that they do not require manufacturers to include language about the installation of the products.

ACA/NE then went directly to Bosch Thermotechnology Corp.  We are pleased to report that Bosch Thermotechnology Corp has agreed to change the language in their manuals, which indicates that in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a licensed plumber must install the gas appliance.

ACA/NE is now hoping that other manufacturers follow the example of Bosch in removing this potentially confusing and damaging language.

ACA/NE wishes to thank Jason Tremblay for his follow through and perseverance in making this change happen.  Jason is the Area Sales Manager for New Hampshire & Central Massachusetts for Bosch Thermotechnology Corp.

Legislative
Update

Refrigeration License Legislation

ACA/NE continues to monitor the legislation to require that HVAC contractors obtain a refrigeration license.   Last session the legislation was sent to a study committee, effectively killing the bill. To kill the bill this session, ACA/NE has again retained the services of Delaney & Associates, Inc.

Department of Public Safety Move s to Division of Professional Licensure

In March, Article 87 passed the Legislature and the Department of Public Safety moved to the to the Division of Professional Licensure.  ACA/NE supported this move, which was filed by Governor Baker who said this would, "consolidate licensing functions currently split across several secretariats, thereby increasing efficiencies, eliminating redundancies, and improving customer service by creating one-stop shopping for the vast majority of license approvals."
