This time of the year gets us all thinking about what we have accomplished throughout the year.  Holiday times are coming and the season is changing once again. The months fly by and we often forget the simple things and surely put off some important things in life. Our sense of hearing is very special and keeps us in touch with the world around us. Let ACA remind you how important our hearing is and allow us to help enhance your life through better hearing during this holiday season.

WHY IS TWO BETTER THAN ONE?

When a patient presents a bilateral hearing loss, a hearing loss in both ears, the question sometimes arises whether or not two hearing aids are really necessary. There are certainly some important factors to understand and consider:

1. Overall speech clarity and the ability to understand

conversation is enhanced significantly with the use

of binaural amplification, the use of 2 hearing aids.

2. There is a better sense of localization or directionality.

3. Balance is improved.

4. Two ears, working in concert, present our brains with a great

deal of useful, important information to process. This is a vital.

5. Binaural auditory stimulation is important to prevent auditory

deprivation. Auditory deprivation occurs when the auditory

nerve is not stimulated with proper sound, decreasing the

nerve's ability to receive sound input and speech intelligibility

    over time.

6. Binaural input has been shown to reduce the perception of

tinnitus, ringing in the ears, in over 50% of patients.

There are countless reasons why binaural hearing is important to the overall quality of life for the patient. The advantage of employing two aids increases sound quality and overall functionality. When you want to perform at your best, it just makes good sense to obtain the maximum amount of information from your surroundings. You deserve the best of care.

TREATING HEARING LOSS HELPS OTHER ASPECTS OF WOMEN'S WELLNESS

Treating hearing loss may help more than just a woman's hearing, says the Better Hearing Institute (BHI), which is raising awareness of the importance of hearing health to a woman's overall wellness.
In the United States today, as many as one-third of women in their 50s have some degree of hearing loss, along with nearly two-thirds of women in their 60s.

Facts Every Woman Should Know About Hearing Health According to the Better Hearing Institute
  1. Women with hearing loss are more likely to be depressed. Research shows that hearing loss is associated with depression among U.S. adults, but particularly among women.

  2. Cardiovascular and hearing health are linked. There are three studies that cite very interesting findings: One found that a higher level of physical activity is associated with lower risk of hearing loss in women. Another revealed that smokers and passive smokers are more likely to suffer hearing loss. And a third found that regular fish consumption and higher intake of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are associated with lower risk of hearing loss in women.

  3. If you have diabetes, you're twice as likely to have hearing loss. What's more, having diabetes may cause women to experience a greater degree of hearing loss as they age, especially if the diabetes is not well controlled with medication. About 11 percent of women in the United States are affected by diabetes.

  4. Hearing loss in women is tied to common pain relievers. Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are associated with an increased risk of hearing loss in women. The link is even stronger among those younger than 50.

  5. Addressing hearing loss may benefit cognitive function.  Research shows a link between hearing loss and dementia, leading experts to believe that interventions, like hearing aids, could potentially delay or prevent dementia.

5 INSPIRING THINGS TREATING HEARING LOSS SAYS ABOUT YOU

Are you brushing off a hearing problem because you're afraid it might say the wrong thing about you?  Well think again. 2. YOU VALUE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS.

Healthy relationships rest largely on good communication. Treating hearing loss lets close family and friends know that you want to stay connected and involved in your relationships with them. Most people who currently wear hearing aids say it not only helps their overall ability to communicate effectively in most situations, but it also has a positive effect on their relationships. And they're more likely to have a strong social network.

In fact, people with hearing difficulty who use hearing aids get more pleasure in doing things and are even more likely to exercise and meet up with friends to socialize, research by the Better Hearing Institute (BHI) shows.

4. YOU LOVE LIVING LIFE.

The more exuberance you have for life, the less likely it is you'll let untreated hearing loss get in your way. When you address hearing loss, you let the world know you love living life, and you're going to live it with gusto. Research even shows that people with hearing loss who use hearing aids are more likely to be optimistic and

                                   feel engaged in life.
