ACCG Releases Results for Local Law Enforcement Compensation Survey
Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle created a special Senate task force called Compensation for Police and Sheriffs (COPS) to study the issues surrounding law enforcement pay, recruitment and retention. In order to provide the task force with relevant and timely information, ACCG conducted a comprehensive survey of all counties regarding compensation and benefits provided to local law enforcement.

Georgia County Commissioners Advocate for County Priorities at the White House
More than 100 Georgia county leaders made the trip to Washington D.C. to attend a day of meetings at the White House with key administration officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue, and Senator David Perdue.

County commissioners heard from federal departments and agencies, including the Small Business Administration, Energy, Transportation, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, and Housing and Urban Development. They discussed how federal policies impact Georgia counties and residents. Topics included the opioid epidemic, workforce housing, infrastructure, natural disaster preparations, and health care reform along with the latest developments at Plant Vogtle and the Georgia Ports expansion.

Prior to the White House meeting, county leaders and ACCG participated in a federal policy briefing at the National Association of Counties. The group also enjoyed an open house held at the USDA headquarters.

Georgia commissioners were the ninth group of county officials to attend such an event. County leaders from Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada and West Virginia were invited to the White House earlier this year.
Annual Immigration Report Due on December 31st
Every year, counties, cities, and local authorities are required to submit an immigration report to the Department of Audits and Accounts by December 31. The reporting period spans from Dec. 1, 2016, through Nov. 30, 2017. An overview of the report template can be viewed  here . The report requires the county to submit information related to their E-Verify number and authorization date, E-Verify contractor information, E-Verify private employer information, and public benefit information, and also requires the county to certify that it is compliant with state law regarding sanctuary policies. This report is mandatory and must be submitted by every county governing authority and all county authorities. DOAA will be reporting non-compliant counties and county authorities to state agencies that provide state funding to local governments, so make sure to submit your report by Dec. 31, 2017.
