The Inside Scoop Specially for Alumni
Alumni Corner

Isaac Pretter, Class IV

President, Bnai Jacob Shaarei Zion Congregation

1. Tell us about one of the most exciting things that has happened to you over the last year or so?
Our oldest child had her Bat Mitzvah. It made me realize how fast our kids are growing up!

2. What is the most valuable skill or tool that you learned in ACHARAI that you have used on a consistent basis?
I learned that in leadership positions, one shouldn’t take credit for positive outcomes, but rather attribute it to others on the team. When people feel appreciated they are more likely to stay engaged and be helpful.

3. What is one piece of advice you would give to future leaders?
Start working on succession planning as soon as you take on your leadership role.

What's New?

The Inside Scoop has been created just for you! Our ACHARAI alums have told us that they like to be connected with each other and kept up to date with what is currently happening at ACHARAI. Expect this enewsletter to appear in your inbox every other month – filled with information that will focus on four areas: an alumni highlight, a leadership article or tool, an update of ACHARAI events and the good and welfare of our alums.

ACHARAI Highlights:

  • We just had our third Courage Conversation on February 28, facilitated by faculty member Ellen Kagen Waghelstein. Look for a new date announcement for our fourth and final conversation!
  • A new ACHARAI logo is being rolled out – check it out!
  • Hold the date for ACHARAI’s annual meeting which will be held on Monday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Weinberg Park Heights JCC. Larry Ziffer will be honored for his 10 years of teaching five cohorts! More info to follow – put the date on your calendar now!
  • AFP Class VI had its first session last month with lots of new organizations being represented. The faculty team is Rabbi Ari Israel and Ellen Kagen Waghelstein.
  • We are looking for class representatives to join the Alumni Committee which is chaired by Rob Cahn and Howard Goodman, both Class IV Alums. Contact Naami Schorr to volunteer.

by Rosalinda Torres called,
What it Takes to be a Great Leader

Rosalinda addresses the question, “What makes a great leader in the 21st century?”
After watching this TED Talk – think about the three questions that are posed in the talk:

1. Where are you looking to anticipate change?
2. What is the diversity measure of your network?
3. Are you courageous enough to abandon the past?
