Quarterly Newsletter Spring 2016

A Message From Your
ACHE of Massachusetts President

Dear ACHE of MA Members,

As I assume the two-year term of President, I wanted to extend a special thank you to our Immediate Past President, Karen Moore, FACHE, for her exemplary leadership of our chapter the past two years, her efforts to ensure a seamless transition of knowledge and information, and her continued engagement as a key member of our chapter board. In this particular period - when it appears nationally that the transition of "power" is so politicized and polarizing - it is refreshing to benefit from the full support of my predecessor. Thank you, Karen, for modeling leadership transition at its best.

2017 promises to be the "Year of the Member" as your very dedicated chapter board works to create opportunities to deepen our engagement with you, and for you to deepen your engagement with ACHE. In this and future chapter newsletters, you will hear about a new membership recruitment video, discounts and support to encourage you to advance to Fellow and earn the FACHE credential, new career-related services offered not just in Chicago but here in Massachusetts, the chapter's support of early careerists and students in attending ACHE's National Congress on Healthcare Leadership, and special events coming later this year to engage our C-Suite members in new ways. As part of the focus on membership, the board is continuing efforts it piloted last year, including providing opportunity for members to attend a board meeting, a more robust annual meeting in the fall with greater insight into the business and priorities of the chapter, and a process for members to volunteer for ACHE of MA committees and projects as a way of networking with other healthcare leaders outside of their own organizations. All of this is alongside our usual robust educational programming, offering you the opportunity both to learn and network and also to earn continuing education credits close to home.

Long story short, if you haven't taken advantage of any of the above, you're missing out! We are now over 1,000 members strong: optimize the value you gain from your ACHE membership by tapping into this incredible resource. Whether you're new to the MA healthcare scene or have been here for decades, let this be the year that you learn a little more about your professional association and all that it can do for you!

Sincerely,
Andrea Pacellio, FACHE
Executive Director, Massachusetts General Hospital

SPRING CONFERENCE - The Revolution Continues
Thursday, May 25, 2017

Federal and state governments are restructuring their health care commitments and obligations. Federal efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act are being played out in Congress. Massachusetts plans to move Mass Health to a value-based platform. And other private and public initiatives seek to slow the seemingly inexorable rise in health care expenditures while improving quality and safety.

Will all of this make American health care great again and how will this affect patients, providers and other stakeholders?

Report Your Volunteer Service

A hallmark of the healthcare management profession is volunteer service to the profession and to ACHE. ACHE's Recognition Program acknowledges your service to the healthcare management community.

Points are awarded according to various types of volunteer activities or services performed. In most cases, the points are awarded to each ACHE member automatically if the activity or service is conducted through ACHE.

In some instances, the activity or service is performed individually or locally in an ACHE chapter. These activities must be self-reported by April 6, 2017, to receive credit this year. Activities can include:

  • Writing articles for a chapter newsletter
  • Speaking at local education programs
  • Being a mentor to another professional
  • Serving as an informal advisor for Fellow candidates
  • Participating in chapter career assistance programs

Awards for the Recognition Program are presented annually at an ACHE local chapter event. Learn more about the Recognition Program.

To self-report your chapter involvements, visit my.ache.org and click on "My Volunteer Service" in the left-hand column. You will also be able to view the points you have accrued and the activities and services you have performed.
