At our pastor's Prayer time on Wednesday morning, we talked a bit about storms in our lives. Almost all of us shared about personal or pastoral storms that were creating crises in our lives.
One of the pastors shared that the symbol for crisis in Chinese is literally translated "dangerous opportunity." Another went on to say that it is when people are experiencing the helplessness of a storm that they are most open to seeking or receiving Jesus.
In the eighth chapter of Luke, Jesus and His disciples are crossing a lake when they encounter a storm. As the boat fills with water, the disciples awaken Jesus who has fallen asleep. After expressing their fear that they are all about to die, Jesus speaks and calms the storm.
The disciples were comfortable being apart from Jesus while they were in control and doing what was easy for them. But, when there was a crisis too big for them to handle, they sought out Jesus. It would seem to me, from the plain reading of Luke, that they were not awakening Him because of their faith, but rather from the perspective of"misery loves company". Regardless of the reason, the storm drove them to Jesus.
In the middle of a violent storm, on a lake far from shore, a crisis led 12 terrified men into a dangerous opportunity. They began fearing for their lives and declaring the power of the storm. When Jesus awoke and spoke, their fear of the storm was replaced with fear of God as the saw Jesus calm the storm. The power of the storm became strangely dim as it was replaced by the more incredible power of God.
If you are currently experiencing a storm in your life, don't fear the storm. Seek Jesus. Have faith and look for dangerous opportunities.
His word shall not fail you, He promised
Believe Him and all will be well
Then go to a world that is dying
His perfect salvation to tell
And turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
Third verse and refrain of Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

BBQ AND MUSIC PARTY OCTOBER 13
The church is going to throw a party in October! It will be for all ACSP members, family and friends (so just almost everyone.)
If the weather permits, we will set up tables, smokers, and a small stage on the lawn directly south of Trinity House. The church is providing meat for the BBQ and the rest of us will bring "fixin's". Cheryl Ide is keeping the list of who is bring what. Please check with her about what we are currently needing.
Eric and
Johnathan will liven up the event with a one-hour set of country and gospel music.
In the even of inclement weather, we will move inside Trinity House (all except the smokers, they are not house trained.)
If you have BBQ Smoking skills or desire to learn, please volunteer to help by contacting

Our Mission Statement Is: "REACH, TEACH, PREACH JESUS!" Approved by the vestry of the Anglican Church of Saint Paul on August 23, 2007 |
Our Vision Statement Is: The Anglican Church of Saint Paul will become a church united in love, growing spiritually through small groups of individuals studying God's Holy Word, praying for one another and the blessing of the church, and working towards the goal that the Lord's "salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." (Isaiah 49:6) Approved by the vestry of the Anglican Church of Saint Paul on February 17, 2011 |
Our Core Values The following scriptures summarize our church's Core Values: OUR PRIORITY - First of all, seek God. "... seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:33) OUR DIRECTION - Come out of the wilderness to the LORD and beckon others to join us. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) OUR PURPOSE - Be healed and become a place of healing and peace. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27) OUR REMINDER - In all things, it is the LORD who gets the glory. "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty." (Zechariah 4:6) OUR REWARD - Keep our eyes upon the prize. "Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it." (Revelation 2:17) Approved by the Anglican Church of Saint Paul Vestry on August 23, 2012 |
