Come now, you who say,  "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"- yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For  you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
James 4:13-14 (ESV)

I was at the Pastors' Prayer this morning and God gave me a reminder.

We began the morning by talking about future plans. We all contributed prayer requests for trips and retreats that are being planned as well as for church programs that will begin next month.

As we were talking, the passage quoted above from James flashed through my mind. I remembered news programs I had listened to last night that spoke about the tension in North Korea and how one bad decision could threaten hundreds of thousands of souls - many of those souls having never accepted Jesus as their Savior.

James reminds us that it is easy to get caught up in life as if we are entitled to tomorrow. We put off what is important to consider things that may never come. If we knew that we only have today, how would that change our priorities? If we really understood how fragile life is, would it change our prayer life?

It did mine. I usually have a lot of people on my mind to pray for, but kings and authorities are not at the top of the list. Today, I remembered Saint Paul's words to Timothy, "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way." 1 Timothy 2:1-2

The world's leaders need our prayers. The people and the leadership of North Korea need our prayers. We need to pray because, without God's mercy, tomorrow could be a nightmare.

Our Vision Statement Is:

The Anglican Church of Saint Paul will become a church united in love, growing spiritually through small groups of individuals studying God's Holy Word, praying for one another and the blessing of the church, and working towards the goal that the Lord's "salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." (Isaiah 49:6)

The following scriptures summarize our church's Core Values:

OUR PRIORITY - First of all, seek God. "... seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:33)

OUR DIRECTION - Come out of the wilderness to the LORD and beckon others to join us. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

OUR PURPOSE - Be healed and become a place of healing and peace. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27)

OUR REMINDER - In all things, it is the LORD who gets the glory. "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty." (Zechariah 4:6)

OUR REWARD - Keep our eyes upon the prize. "Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it." (Revelation 2:17)
