My roommate from college, Don, came into Owasso earlier this week to say hello and catch up. He is also a pastor, but unlike me, he grew up in church and has always had a strong knowledge of Holy Scripture.

During our conversation, I quoted Scripture. I don't remember why, but as I said it, I thought about our youth together. I laughed because I have always thought of my upbringing, until I was baptized at age 27, as being raised "heathen." I wondered what 16 year old Chris would think about his 62 year old self. Don and I both had a good laugh about the thought of that.

The difference in me today and 45 years ago (high school graduation) is as different as light and dark. I knew NO scripture, believed that Jesus was God (as do the demons), but did not know why. My life was completely and entirely about me.

Then Jesus quietly called me to follow Him and making that decision dramatically changed the course of my life. I know that I am forgiven, delivered from sin, have the hope of heaven and am trying to be useful to Jesus. I was content.

This morning, I was reading a devotional and Oswald Chambers, in his book My Utmost for His Highest stated, "Gaining heaven, being delivered from sin, and being made useful to God are things that should never even be a consideration in real surrender. Genuine total surrender is a personal sovereign preference for Jesus Christ Himself."

In other words, what if we had no hope of anything for ourselves, would we still want to entrust our lives to Jesus? Total surrender is trusting Jesus to glorify the Father regardless of what it means for us. We minimize ourselves so that God is magnified. Nothing in our lives should be more important than our love of God.

As I pondered Chambers' words, it occurred to me that I am not really as different as I thought I was. My life is still much about me. In many ways, I can see that I am not the same as I was before. But in other ways, I see how much of me is still left to surrender to the Lord Jesus.

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

Refrain:
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame;
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!

WOMEN'S BREAKFAST DATE FOR SEPTEMBER

The Women of the church will meet at Cracker Barrel at 8:30 am on Saturday, September 22 for their monthly breakfast.
TASTING SUNDAY MOVED TO BBQ DATE

Churros, donuts, chocolate dip and varieties of coffee for tasting has been moved to be a part of our October BBQ. This is part of the research we are doing as we continue to discern God's call to us to reach out to the community.
Maybe we will hear distinctly that we are called to open a coffee house, but in the meantime, donuts and churros are tasty!
BBQ AND MUSIC PARTY OCTOBER 13

The church is going to throw a party in October! It will be for all ACSP members, family and friends (so just almost everyone.)

If the weather permits, we will set up tables, smokers, and a small stage on the lawn directly south of Trinity House. The church is providing meat for the BBQ and the rest of us will bring "fixin's".

Eric and Johnathan will liven up the event with a one-hour set of country and gospel music.

In the even of inclement weather, we will move inside Trinity House (all except the smokers, they are not house trained.)

If you have BBQ Smoking skills or desire to learn, please volunteer to help by contacting Jay Ide.

Our Vision Statement Is:

The Anglican Church of Saint Paul will become a church united in love, growing spiritually through small groups of individuals studying God's Holy Word, praying for one another and the blessing of the church, and working towards the goal that the Lord's "salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." (Isaiah 49:6)

The following scriptures summarize our church's Core Values:

OUR PRIORITY - First of all, seek God. "... seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:33)

OUR DIRECTION - Come out of the wilderness to the LORD and beckon others to join us. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

OUR PURPOSE - Be healed and become a place of healing and peace. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27)

OUR REMINDER - In all things, it is the LORD who gets the glory. "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty." (Zechariah 4:6)

OUR REWARD - Keep our eyes upon the prize. "Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it." (Revelation 2:17)
