From Fr. Chris: Wednesday morning I heard of the death of Billy Graham. I intended to write about him in this devotional because he had been one of the bricks in my foundation of faith. However, I received this email from Bishop Bill Atwood and felt that his thoughts were more fitting for this space. Rest in peace, Pastor Graham.

Dear iDio Family,
Greetings in the name of the Lord!

Early in 1972, my Air Force roommate had left the TV on when he went to go fly. As I walked by the TV to turn it off, I heard Billy Graham say, "Don't turn off that TV!" Obviously shocked, I pulled my hand back from turning the set off.

He went on to say, "You need to hear this. There is something missing in your life. I know that because if Jesus Christ is not in your heart, then you have an emptiness there that only He can fill. You can pray to receive him right now. If you are alone, find someone else and talk and pray with them."

As simple and startling as that was, it was a tremendous catalyst in my experience of meeting Jesus as Lord and Savior a few days later on Easter Sunday.

Hearing the news today of Billy Graham's death is quite profound not only for me but for the world. I cannot imagine that there has ever been anyone of such evangelistic stature. I'm glad that I wrote to him several times over the years to thank him for the role he played in my life. It would have been wonderful to tell him personally, but now, I suppose I will have to wait!

Many times in his preaching and writing he referred to himself as a "sinner saved by grace." His life has been a constant testimony of what is possible when we surrender our lives to the Lordship of Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. While you and I will likely never even approach anything like the vast fruit of Billy Graham, that is not the issue. It is never wise to compare one Christian to another. Instead, we should ask ourselves with rigorous honesty if we are fulfilling our vocation as Christians, and living up to our potential in Him. Are we open to the power of the Holy Spirit and walking in fidelity? Are we bearing all the fruit that God intends for us to bear?

Billy Graham has passed from this life into the next. Without a doubt he has received a spectacular
welcome. Imagine the joy of countless millions who can greet him there in heaven, thanking him and together celebrating the redemption of Jesus Christ. His descriptions of angels, heaven, eternity, and salvation have given hope to millions. Still, there are countless millions more who do not know Him or redemption. Now, our role is even more critical. We need to "show and tell" so that all will come to know.

Yours in Christ,

+ Bill

Our Vision Statement Is:

The Anglican Church of Saint Paul will become a church united in love, growing spiritually through small groups of individuals studying God's Holy Word, praying for one another and the blessing of the church, and working towards the goal that the Lord's "salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." (Isaiah 49:6)

The following scriptures summarize our church's Core Values:

OUR PRIORITY - First of all, seek God. "... seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:33)

OUR DIRECTION - Come out of the wilderness to the LORD and beckon others to join us. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

OUR PURPOSE - Be healed and become a place of healing and peace. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27)

OUR REMINDER - In all things, it is the LORD who gets the glory. "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty." (Zechariah 4:6)

OUR REWARD - Keep our eyes upon the prize. "Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it." (Revelation 2:17)
