President Elect Trump has nominated Elaine Chao as Secretary of Transportation. Secretary Chao was formerly 
the Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush and     ser ved as Deputy Secretary of Transportation under George H.W. Bush.

Secretary Chao is the wif e of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. She will be tasked with ushering in President-elect Trump's ambitious infrastructure plan that includes leveraging the private sector for more t han $1 trillion in new investments. 

ACT congratulates Secretary Chao and looks forward to working with her administration.

"I want to congratulate Secretary Chao and we look forward to working with her to improve the commutes of millions of working Americans. We have critical transportation needs that must be met with increased investment". David Straus, Executive Director. "We must also look to get more out of our existing transportation system and do more to leverage technology, employers, and new practices to improve our transportation system."

With a new administration and new leadership at the DOT, the coming months will be an important time for ACT as it develops its public policy priorities for the next year and beyond.  We look forward to gathering feedback from our members during this process and your participation in helping promote the benefits of continued investments in TDM strategies.

FTA Announces Policy Guidance Documents for Mobility on Demand
FTA Announces Policy Guidance Documents for Mobility on Demand
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has released a series of policy documents that outline and clarify how transit agencies can work with mobility on demand providers using Federal Transit Administration funds. The guidance includes FTA definitions as well as an opportunity for agencies and stakeholders to engage. 


 

DOT Announces University Transportation Centers

The US Department of Transportation has announced winners for the University Transportation Center program. The programs include five national centers, ten regional centers and twenty tier-once centers, each with specific focus areas. ACT congratulates the winners and looks forward to working with them. 

Rep. Roskam Introduces Legislation to Expand Transit Benefit to TNCs

Representative Peter Roskam (R-IL) introduced legislation that would allow commuters to use a portion of their parking benefit on trips taken on 'pooled' versions of transportation network companies. The legislation was introduced before the end of Congress and will have to be re-introduced in the new Congress. Rep. Roskam has said that the language within the legislation was a first cut and that he looked forward to working with ACT.

ACT members are also invited to join one of two Public Policy task-forces; reach out to Jason Pavluchuk  for more information.   

  • 2017 ACT PPC Work Plan -- Help set the 2017 Public Policy agenda; the taskforce will develop two documents looking at legislative priorities at the state, local and federal level.  Time commitments are 3/4 1-hour phone calls between November-January.
  • 2017 Public Policy Summit Planning Committee --   The Summit is April 19-21, 2017 and the time commitment is 1-hour calls once a month beginning in November that will increase to bi-weekly in March 2017.
