Bicycle Coalition Action Alert |
December 2, 2011Greetings!
 | | Perkiomen Creek Trail: DEFUNDED |
Due to a $40 million dollar shortfall in the 2012 Budget, Montgomery County Commissioners are proposing to eliminate funding for the entire Montgomery County Park system along with the County Planning Commission. In short, the County is looking to plug a budget hole by tearing apart the County's park infrastructure.
CLOSING PARKS AND TRAILS SHOULD NOT BE ONE OF THE SOLUTIONS TO MONTCO'S BUDGET CRISIS! Open space and trails have been created and preserved for public use. They generate economic activity which dwarfs the trails' maintenance costs. Parks and trails are essential to the quality of life in Montgomery County. This proposal seriously threatens the Schuylkill River, Perkiomen and Oaks Trails.
Click HERE to send a letter to the Commissioners Matthews, Hoeffel and Castor asking them to NOT close Montco's park and trail system or the County Planning Commission. Please consider personalizing the letter with what the parks mean to.
There will also be a budget public hearing on December 7th at 10:00 am, at One Montgomery Plaza, 8th Floor, Swede St and W. Airy Ave in Norristown, PA. Please attend and show your support for trails.
Thank you, Sarah Clark Stuart Campaign Director
