Greetings!

DJ Wegener
Rev. David J. Wegener
As announced last month in the July ACU Prayer Update, we offer great thanks to the Lord of the harvest who graciously and swiftly answered many prayers by calling His chosen servant to fill the role of Dean of ACU  Seminary (ACUS).  While initially an interim position, we are rapidly working through all of the details for securing the appointment. God's ordained servant is Rev. David Wegener who plans on moving to Lusaka with his wife Terri in January, 2013, to take up his new position with ACUS.  They are leaving four grown children in the USA, the youngest being their 16 year old daughter, Sarah.  Please remember the Wegener's in your prayers.  ACU is excited to acknowledge God's provision, and we welcome you to learn more about David, Terri and their family, to strengthen your prayers by reading the following article spotlighting the new Dean of ACUS.

WegenerRev. David J. Wegener - Dean of ACUS

David holds three masters degrees: M.Div. and M.A. (Church History) from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and M.A. (History) from University of Wisconsin.  He was also a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Geneva.

He and wife Terri have been married almost 30 years.  They have four children: Lizzie Wegener-Bowman, (age 22), married to Lane Bowman; Mary Wegener, (20); John Wegener, (18) and Sarah Wegener, (16).

David is an ordained Teaching Elder (Pastor) in the Central Indiana Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America.  Terri is a member at Clearnote Church, Bloomington, Indiana and David sits as an elder on the session of Clearnote Church when he is home on furlough. Lizzie and Lane Bowman, Mary, John and Sarah Wegener are also communing members of Clearnote Church, Bloomington and when they are in Ndola, Zambia, David and Terri are associate members of Grace Reformed Baptist Church.

Both David and Terri serve as career missionaries with Mission to the World (Lawrenceville, Georgia).  David presently serves as Lecturer and Academic Dean at the Theological College of Central Africa (TCCA).  ACU is grateful for God's timing of David's move from TCCA to ACU as it coincides with TCCA's move toward faculty indigenization while answering our prayers for someone with David's experience and proven commitment to theological education in Zambia.  We pray for TCCA's continued continental impact in equipping pastors as Christ's servants for the church in Africa.

David grew up in Bloomington, IN and Terri grew up in nearby Columbus.  When in the USA they live in Bloomington.  Please keep the Wegener family in prayer as they expressed their faith in God's calling by making the difficult decision to leave their two youngest children, John and Sarah, in the USA for schooling purposes.  John will be under the loving care of their oldest daughter Lizzie and her husband Lane, and Sarah will stay with friends of the family.  Terri tearfully expressed that this seems to be God's purpose for us at this time in our lives.  May they know God's peace and comfort as they sacrifice their family unity for serving God's kingdom work in Zambia.

The Wegeners 5
The Wegeners (absent Lizzie & Lane Bowman)

Rev. Wegener was first attracted to ACU, because of its leaders and the underpinning of its Reformed beliefs. "I know, admire and trust the men who are leading the university, which was very important to me," he shared, "although our call from God is to help build the Bible-believing churches in Zambia and central Africa; we have a particular desire to see the proliferation of the Reformed faith in this area."  He asserted that the Christ, who loved and died for His church, continues to work through visible, local churches.  "If a Christian university does not build churches, it needs to close its doors or change."  Rev. Wegener further acknowledged, "A Christian university needs to be under the oversight of shepherds of particular flocks to keep it real and accountable."

David anticipates that the governance of ACU will indeed be steered by such marshaling.  He prays that the seminary will be "an example and correction to schools that may have begun with this focus, but lost it along the way."  David expresses deep confidence that the ACU Board of Directors will remain faithful to the church and thereby faithful to the leading of the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures in directing ACU.

ACU Seminary Transparent Faith and optimism are the guiding principles that influence Rev. Wegener's petitions on behalf of  ACU Seminary.  His desire is that its graduates will be, "converted men, trusting in Christ alone as their Savior, living joyfully under the Lordship of Christ and bearing the fruit of God's Spirit in practical ways; and that they will be grounded in a Reformed world and life view and be agents of transformation in our African context."

"I hope and pray that our students will learn to love the Reformed faith in such a way that their affections are quickened by it," David asserted, "and that ACUS will become one of the leading seminaries on the continent."

Ray the Road Warrior
Ray the Praying Road Warrior

We are pleased to report that Ray Warwick is feeling great and has embarked on a cross-country trip to spread the word about ACU and his mission there. He praised God after receiving word from his neurologist that all the tests came back fine. He and Peggy are most appreciative to all who supported them through prayer during what he calls "a blip on the screen" of his life's journey. They take comfort in knowing that God is the only one who knows exactly what happened and are happily resting in his grace.

Ray and Peggy are moving full speed ahead with preparations for the move to Zambia, where Ray will serve initially as the Academic Dean of African Christian University.  So far, he has six speaking engagements scheduled in California, Michigan and Ohio. "I am hoping to set up more meetings in other venues and states," Ray commented, noting that several possibilities are in the works. His prayer is that God would lead him to churches and people who have a passion for missions and a desire to spread God's truth in Africa through holistic, Christ-centered higher education.

Ray is prepared to lead and eagerly anticipates working with those who will serve as faculty, as well as the mentors who will undertake the distinctive, discipleship ministry. The passion he possesses for the unique gospel-oriented preparatory year that ACU will offer is keenly evident. "We desire that the students not only gain an outstanding tertiary education, but that they personally know the Creator of all truth, understand His claim upon their lives (including their minds) and practice the application of their academic discipline in a God-exalting and community-blessing manner," he ardently exclaimed.

Ray will be staying with friends and family as he drives across the country. You may view his schedule on ACU's website (August/September Event Calendar)  to see if he is coming to a city near you. Speaking engagements can be arranged by contacting his mobile phone: 619-955-3300.

Rod McDonald, software engineer and member of Christ Fellowship Church of Kansas City, had a good visit in early August to investigate how he might be able to assist ACU through the  Student Labor Program. Pray the Lord's calling would be clear.

Lisa Turnbull received a good report from the cardiologist leaving her and Ken to keep an eye on symptoms with a follow-up appointment next year. The trip to South Africa resulted in a much needed break thanks to friends who let Ken and Lisa spend a few days in their beach flat for their 26th anniversary. They were greatly refreshed.

We are thankful for the safe return of David and Terri Wegener to Zambia to complete their final term at Theological College of Central Africa in Ndola before moving to Lusaka, Lord willing, in Jan, 2013, to lead ACU Seminary

We humbly acknowledge the continued grace of God in growing the support for ACU through the "425 campaign" in the USA.

ACU praying hands

PrayerMatters for Prayer

Pray for the development of an ACU-UK Board of Directors to facilitate assistance for ACU through the UK.

Ask that God would direct the acquisition of sufficient land for ACU's development and confer wisdom to Chairman John Chundu in pursuing the matter.  We need divine intervention in securing additional property that will accompany the offered Shantumbu traditional land.

Cornerstone Trust was unable to offer support for a Development Director. Please summon the Lord to provide for this position through a proposal that was submitted to Overseas Council (OC).

Another opportunity exists through OC for help with ACU Board of Directors development.  Pray that facilitation could be provided by Dr. Victor Nakah, the African director of OC for this purpose.

Inquire of the Lord to carve out a foreordained path for ACU-RSA Board members as they meet in Kempton Park, South Africa, Sept. 10, seeking to implement and assess God-glorifying approaches to developing the ACU-RSA financial and prayer partner base.

May God give prudent and clear counsel to Dr. Preston Sprinkle (Biblical Studies, Eternity Bible College, California) as he considers assisting ACU Seminary in the latter half of 2013.

I have seen many men work without praying, though I have never seen any good come out of it; but I have never seen a man pray without working.
