New $10 Note

The new $10 banknote will be going into circulation from 20 September 2017 this year.
Assurance banknotes have been made available for machine users to test and validate and to help them educate their staff and customers about the new banknote features.
In addition, a security feature training video has been produced, so that on-site staff can be trained to quickly identify fraudulent notes.

Fair Work Information Sheet

From 1 July 2017, the latest version of the Fair Work Information Statement must be used
The Fair Work Information Statement must be given to each employee when they commence employment. The Statement provides new employees with information on the National Employment Standards, Awards, the role of the Fair Work Ombudsman and the Fair Work Commission and other employment related matters.
Under section 125 of the Fair Work Act 2009 (the Act) , a national system employer must give each employee a copy of the Fair Work Information Statement as soon as practicable after they commence employment. Penalties of up to $63,000 for a corporation and $12,600 for an individual may be imposed if the employers do not comply with this requirement

NOTE: Pdf copies of this Information Sheet are being emailed to all ACWA members to be distributed to their employees
Casual Conversion to Part-time status

In recent times there has been some considerable discussion amongst business owners in relation to changes to how casual employees are employed.
This has come about as a result of a decision handed down by the Fair Work Commission (‘the FWC’) which will, when finalised, insert a clause into most Modern Awards which will provide casual employees that have been employed on a regular basis for a period of 12 months with a right to request that they change to permanent employment.

Workcover Compliance Inspections for WA

Workcover WA will be conducting employer compliance inspections of car washing businesses during the month of September in the Perth Metro area.
We are hoping to be given more information on what the Inspectors will be looking for and will email to you as soon as we have it. In the meantime, it might be worth noting that the recent Melbourne Worksafe inspections were concentrating mainly on chemical safety and compressor servicing.
