ADI Members receive prestigious Diabetes Canada Awards
From Media Release June 18, 2018

James Shapiro and Patrick MacDonald, members of the Alberta Diabetes Institute (ADI) at the University of Alberta, are being recognized with two of Diabetes Canada’s highest honours: the Diabetes Canada Lifetime Achievement Award and the Diabetes Canada/Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes Young Scientist Award.

“Canadian scientists are world leaders in diabetes research, and the Alberta Diabetes Institute has done groundbreaking work with the Edmonton Protocol and islet transplantation,” said Dr. Jan Hux, president of Diabetes Canada. “We are committed to advancing diabetes research in Canada and thrilled to bestow our Lifetime Achievement Award and Young Scientist Award upon two of the University of Alberta’s leading diabetes researchers.”
