ADK's Professional Trail Crew Is Hard At Work
This season ADK's pro crew will spend over fourteen weeks working throughout Catskill regions three and four for the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). One of the trail projects in region four that was completed is just over a mile of multi-use trail in the Elm Ridge Wild Forest. Over the past seven years, ADK has helped the DEC implement the Elm Ridge management plan by building a series of easily accessed, multi-use trails. This season the DEC received a comprehensive report from the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) that outlines several new trail possibilities on Elm Ridge that would enhance the opportunities for all kinds of muscle powered activities including trail running, hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. ADK looks forward to collaborating with the DEC and IMBA at Elm Ridge, as well as on other Wild Forest areas throughout New York in the future. Jane C. Neal Memorial Hike
Join us for the annual Jane Neal hike to support youth participation in the ADK Supervised Volunteer Trails Program. Sunday, August 25th we are hiking up Round Mountain. This is a fabulous loop hike of 4.6 miles, with spectacular views of the Giant Mountain Wilderness Area. Round Mountain is in the southern Keene Valley, with parking access from Route 73.

For the last five years, the Jane. C. Neal Scholarship Fund has been enabling teens to come to the Adirondacks and spend a week in the wilderness working on the trails with other teens. It is an exceptional experience for those teens and is a cause that was dear to Jane's heart. With your help, we have raised close to $20,000 for this special fund bearing her name. We hope that your contribution will help put us over the $20,000 mark this year, enabling three teens to participate in the program free of charge. For more information or to sign up for the hike contact Wendy Ungar at wendy.ungar@utoronoto.ca or 518-891-2750.

Thanks For Supporting The ADK Trails Program
Thanks to all of you who have given to this year's Trails Appeal so far. We're up to $35,000 - we need your help! Let's get to $65,000. We need everyone to give something and we will make it! $5, $10, gifts of any size help. >>Donate Here<<

ADK's Supervised Volunteer Trails Program will have another successful season primarily because of the outstanding turnout of volunteers. For example, all five of the week long teen trail projects are currently full. Led by returning professional trail crew leaders Crystal Tyndall and Evan Curtis, kids between 14-17 years old have the opportunity to experience a backcountry trail project. ADK has scholarships available that will cover the participation fee. This years recipients are Jordan Hackett and Michael Thomas. Jordan was awarded the Sean A. Kelleher Memorial Award Fund and Michael was awarded the Jane C. Neal Scholarship Fund. This ADK Glens Falls-Saratoga, Laurentian, and Schenectady Chapters also sponsored students this year. Congratulations!
