FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS announced it is working with the University of North Dakota to develop an STC package for FreeFlight System RANGR FDL-978-XVR ADS-B universal access transceiver system in a Bell 206B Jet Ranger helicopter.

GARMIN announced new features and capabilities of the GTN series touchscreen GPS/NAV/COM that address the specific needs of helicopter operations. Enhancements include environmental qualification meeting stringent helicopter vibration and temperature testing standards, optional Night Vision Goggle (NVG) compatibility, optional built-in HTAWS and more.
  
SPECTRUM TECHNOLOGIES PLC announced the introduction of Nova MaX: a high-performance measure and cut system for large gauge wire and cable for aerospace, defense and other industries as part of the production process for complex electrical wire harnesses.
  
UNIVERSAL AVIONICS completed helicopter vibration testing and approval for its airborne datalink system, UniLink UL-800/801 CMU. UniLink UL-800/801 CMU adds to Universal's expanding line of products designed for the unique requirements of the helicopter market.

General Aviation: A State-by-State Economic Impact Survey

 

The Alliance for Aviation Across America launched a wide-scale economic impact survey to outline the benefit of general aviation on businesses, local economies and communities around the nation. AEA Wired will highlight a different state each issue:

 

Rhode Island

 

Airports: 8

Pilots: 1,049

Aircraft: 352

Jobs: 1,461

Econ. Impact: $465 million

 

Note: From 1998 to 2006, jobs attributed to Rhode Island's airports grew more than 30 percent.

General Aviation Caucuses were formed in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate in 2009, to inform members and staff about the importance of GA to the nation's economy and transportation system. FAA Releases Aerospace Forecast for Next Two Decades
The Federal Aviation Administration recently published its annual aerospace forecast for the next 20 years, which includes fiscal years 2013-2033.  

 

"General aviation industry began to show signs of recovery in 2012, especially with strong growth in rotorcraft and the agricultural aircraft segment of the turboprop deliveries, as well as a modest growth in the single-engine piston sector." More...

 

 

In response to the recent call for industry comments by the FAA to consider updating the rotorcraft airworthiness standards for both normal and transport-category rotorcraft (Part 27 and 29), the AEA, along with the General Aviation Manufacturers Association and the Helicopter Association International recently hosted a listening session with aviation stakeholders.
