ASPEN AVIONICS and AVIDYNE CORP. announced certification is imminent for the interface between the Avidyne DFC90 Digital Autopilot and the Aspen Evolution Pro Primary Flight Display, and is expected in the next 90 days.

Teens who would enjoy hands-on exploration of aviation and aerospace topics will want to sign up for the summer programs operated by EMBRY-RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY at its Daytona Beach and Prescott campuses. The summer programs run from June 3 to Aug. 9, with individual camps ranging in length from five days to 49 days. Application is required a month before the start date of each camp. For more information for Daytona Beach click here,  or for Prescott click here.

GARMIN INTERNATIONAL announced Garmin Pilot, a new aviation app for iOS devices, including the iPad and iPhone, and Android-based mobile devices. The app brings Garmin's industry-leading aviation features to tablets and smartphones, offering pilots complete navigation, trip planning, DUAT(S) filing, weather and electronic flight bag capabilities.

JEPPESEN completed a successful rapid decompression test of an iPad (3rd generation), proving its integrity in the unlikely event of sudden cabin pressure loss. The successful test was completed to an altitude of 51,000 feet and is part of the program used by operators to obtain FAA authorization for in-flight use of Jeppesen's industry-leading mobile app solutions on iPad.

KANNAD AVIATION launched the NMEA INTEGRA e-Nav, a navigation interface providing a continual and ongoing source of GPS data to the revolutionary INTEGRA ELT. This interface ensures the availability of location data when, for whatever reason, the INTEGRA ELT's internal GPS cannot receive a signal. In this instance, the interface provides back-up GPS position data taken from the aircraft's own panel- mounted GPS.

FAA Changes Break-Even Forecast for NextGen to 2020

The Federal Aviation Administration has changed its break-even point for NextGen to 2020, from 2018 in a previous forecast. However, the FAA said NextGen remains an important goal. "Recognizing that NextGen provides improvements is not enough ... we must also understand that without NextGen we will not be able to sustain the performance of the U.S. airspace system and economy will suffer," the FAA said.
