Author Vern McLellan says "What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year."

He has a point. There are changes coming in the new year that we cannot control but we must remember that there is much we can do. What you bring to the table might make all the difference. We bring support from US Bank, a fantastic long term partner. We also bring Cameron Widdop as our new Lemonade Day Coordinator-- and Cameron will bring energy and enthusiasm to an already fantastic program.

Humboldt Land Title Company brings  impeccable customer service and professionalism to many of our clients. And we bring our commitment to support you, our business owners and community members, however we can.

Take a moment to think about what you'll bring to the table this new year and know we're here as your partner. We look forward to combining our energy and resources in order to help you're your dreams come true.

Funding for AEDC

Thanks to US Bank !

AEDC recently received a $10,000 grant from US bank to be used for general operating support. This continues a tradition of support from US Bank that supports AEDC in our mission to provide loans and support to business and community endeavors. AEDC will use this grant to help grow our loan funds and develop new projects.

" Last year, US Bank gave us $9,500 to support operating expenses. We were able to update our web page thanks to those funds. They have also supported Lemonade Day as a premier sponsor since 2012," Said Susan Seaman, AEDC Program Director.

"At U.S. Bank, we know that a strong small business environment and an educated workforce ensure the prosperity of our communities," Pam Maxwell, Vice President, U.S. Bank.

"AEDC is so grateful for US Bank for their support,"Seaman added. "They not only demonstrate their support of the work we do through grants, but also by participating in AEDC projects like Lemonade Day and Spotlight on Success, as well as having a representative serve on our Board of Directors. My favorite thing about working with US Bank is that their grants don't feel like transactions. The representatives are so accessible and responsive to the ways we want to reach out to the community, they really do feel like a partner in our mission."
New at AEDC

Meet Cameron Widdop

AEDC recently welcomed Cameron Widdop as the new
Humboldt Lemonade Day program coordinator.

" In 2011 when I moved here from San Diego to study entrepreneurship at Humboldt State, Lemonade Day was one of the first Decade of Difference programs I learned about as part of HSU's Entrepreneurship Club," Widdop remembered. "This program gave me a sense of confidence in my choice to study entrepreneurship in Humboldt County."

Widdop is also an aspiring entrepreneur and through an internship with the City of Eureka Parks and Recreation Department discovered a passion for community engagement. He assisted in the creation of Eureka's Crab Fest and was the head coordinator for the City of Eureka's Get Out and Play Day in 2015.

That youth involvement will continue with Humboldt Lemonade Day. "When I was working at multiple
schools in Eureka as an after-school program recreation leader, I realized the youth I'm hoping to empower during this year's Lemonade day are incredibly digitized. For this reason, I will be creating a new social media presence for the event on platforms like Instagram and Pinterest. Hopefully this will encourage a new level of community engagement."

"We're happy to have Cameron's enthusiasm and experience working on Lemonade Day this year," said Susan Seaman, Program Director. "As we enter our seventh year, it's great for the program to have somebody with a new perspective to energize a program with an already great foundation."

Lemonade Day will be held on June 3, 2017. If you or your business are interested in getting involved in Lemonade Day, email cameronw@lemonadeday.org or susans@aedc1.org.

For me Lemonade Day has always been a celebration of the entrepreneurial spark. The moment when a youth truly understands "I can do this and make money doing it!".

 AEDC Partner

Humboldt  Land Title Co.

Humboldt Land Title is a valuable AEDC partner. They assist lenders to access preliminary title reports, record deeds of trust, close escrows.

"The staff at Humboldt Land Title Company is  always quick to get us what we need and they don't hesitate to help us with our borrower needs as well," noted Kelli Sterling, AEDC Loan Manager. "They will also go that little bit extra if we need them to."

A good number of AEDC loans are secured with real property, and the title company works with AEDC to perfect liens on those properties taken as collateral.  The company also assists with business purchases. " When we close an SBA 504 loan, our first choice is usually Humboldt Land Title Company just because those loans can be a bit complex when it comes to closing,"  Sterling added. T iming is crucial and any issues we run into are typically dealt with quickly and efficiently."

SBA 504 Current

 Rate:

4.585%
  • Low down payment for borrowers
  • Competitive fixed interest rate
  • Long Term loan
  • From $50,000 to $5 million for commercial real estate, construction and equipment acquisition.
Many commercial loans available on the market require a sizeable percentage down before the loan will be granted, and this can be an obstacle for many business owners looking to improve their facilities. The SBA 504 Loan offers a solution for that -- you can borrow up to 90% of your financing needs at a fixed rate, so only a minimum of 10% down is required.

The remainder is split between the SBA loan (40%) and a bank loan (50%), and the Arcata Economic Development Corporation will work with your bank to submit your loan application. Loan amounts range from $50,000 to $5 million, and some restrictions apply.

Some refinancing is also eligible through the 504 Refinance Program. This was made permanent in late May of 2016. It will help small business owners ease their financial burdens and create incentives for potential expansion and further job creation.

The 504 loan program, with is long term fixed-rate can help refinance debt from adjustable rate loans with significant savings to borrowers. For more information about this newly re-instated program, contact us at AEDC.
