Equine Infectious Anemia Notification

Alberta's Chief Provincial Veterinarian's Office has been notified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) of two recent detections of equine infectious anemia. The first involved a horse that presented with clinical disease in Sturgeon County, north of Edmonton. The second case was detected in Lacombe County during export testing.

The CFIA is following up with investigations into both of these cases and the Office of the Chief Provincial Veterinarian will be sending out notifications to horse owners in the affected areas using the provincial Premises Identification Database.
