Upcoming Exhibits
Kenneth Hawkey's solo exhibit of new paintings will open at Larkin Gallery in Provincetown on August 22. His work is also currently being shown at the Post Office Gallery in North Truro, and at the Cardiovascular Consultants in Hyannis. He will be participating in the annual auction at Cape Cod Museum of Art in August and has just finished a touring exhibit of his work in New York State.

Kenneth Hawkey's Artist Statement
In my work I embrace a realistic, representational approach. My path through life and all of my interactions with other people and with the physical world around me are based on my visual impressions and I naturally approach painting from this perspective. I see scenes and compositions when I am seeking subjects. Shape, colors, layers and composition are how I view the world around me. I see how the light controls and reacts in these compositions and I see each individual item in my work as whole unto itself yet part of a balanced and unified expression.
Representational painting for me is a natural way to convey those things in contemporary life that have affected me most. They are things I cherish, respect and enjoy. Painting is the means I have to share these things and experience them more profoundly and wholly both through the work itself and through the impression the works make on the viewer. I may research my subjects in a way so I feel I better understand the subjects and express through the work not only my understanding of and appreciation for the subject, but present the viewer with work that also expresses the importance I attach to the subject, but present the viewer with work that also expresses the importance I attach to the subject.  Kenneth Hawkey 2014
