Learn More About Artist Howard Barnes!
Artist Statement
"My work is to show artists' growth over a period of time - beginning with what I was creating 50 years ago to more recent work which is quite different in terms of approach and style. Having studied with Paul Reed from the Washington Color School in the 60's, I transitioned from color staining to a more hard edge format. This has allowed me to use scumbling to create motion within the color fields. The work has become more abstract, minimal and modular, allowing mastery of color to dominate the foreground. My concern remains the relationship of color to color to dominate on a large scale."
Howard resides in Dennis, having moved to the Cape in 2001. He is a retired Medical Illustrator with Advanced Practice Strategies, Boston Mass. and served as Art Director at Bolt Beranek and Newman, Cambridge, Mass. He is an abstract painter who has taught abstract design at NE College in NH and participated in Project Artband with DeCordeva Museum in a faculty assignment for the gifted middle school student. Howard studied at Washburn University School of Fine Arts, Topeka Kansas and Heidelberg University School of Design, Heidelberg, Germany. He was a student of Paul Reed, a member of the Washington School of Color and frequent exhibitor at the Corcoran Museum of Art.

Calling All Performance Artists and Musicians!
Organizers of
Wellfleet
the OysterFest have recognized the limited number of performance opportunities at the 'Fest compared to the significant amount of talent in our community. It is for this reason that the Entertainment Selection Committee has developed a new performance opportunity this year by adding a Street Performer or Busker category. These additional performance slots will be located throughout the event site and are intended to enliven the 'Fest while providing artists a chance to be appreciated by the festival's 25,000 attendees!
The 15th annual Wellfleet OysterFest will be held on October 17 & 18, 2015 from 10am until 5pm, rain or shine. There is no fee to participate as a Busker, donations may be collected and no merchandise may be sold. This is also an opportunity to be heard by the OysterFest Entertainment Selection Committee and perhaps the first step toward a Main Stage time slot!
Here is a
link to the application that contains all the information that you will need. Feel free to share it with your performer friends. It will also be posted on the home page our website shortly.
Busker Applications are due by July 31, 2015. Notifications and the performance schedule will be sent out two weeks after the deadline.
