Message from Sara Baade,
AFF Chief Executive

Welcome to our 'new look' e-newsletter, packed full of the latest news and updates, giving you easy access to some of the most important areas of our work in support of Army families.

It's been a busy start to the year for the AFF team and we continue to listen to, liaise with and engage with families to ensure that their voices are heard and their concerns listened to. Our specialists, regional managers and co-ordinators are at the end of the phone or contactable via email, so do head to our website to find their contact details, should you need them.

With best wishes,
Sara

ARE YOU JOB READY?
Laura Lewin, AFF Employment, Training, Money and Allowances Specialist, "It's never been easier to access the support needed to give your career a boost."

We recently launched our latest initiative in support of spousal employment in partnership with workforce experts Manpower , giving Army families in the Salisbury Plain area of Wiltshire the chance to access employability advice and support free of charge.

Sessions are ongoing, following a successful launch back in February, and take place every two weeks at the Beeches Centre in Bulford. All Army spouses and partners are welcome to come along, have a chat about your employment goals and access a range of support from interview techniques, to a CV check and even live jobs. Find out more.

FAM AND YOUR FAMILY
The results of the MOD's FAM survey were recently released and this provoked a passionate reaction from many Army families. In response, we took families' issues straight to the top and asked Colonel Nathan Sempala-Ntege, Assistant Head Personal Services, Army HQ, to qualify some of the findings.

AFF is still concerned that there is a gap between the expectations of FAM and the reality of it. We want families to be able to make a truly informed decision on FAM - our full response to the findings can be found here .

Army&You
HAVE A SAY ON THE FUTURE OF YOUR MAGAZINE...
The latest edition of Army&You is out now and this quarter we're asking as many Army families as possible to have their say on the future of the magazine dedicated to sharing the latest news, views and snippets from the Army family community.

Tell us what you like, what you'd like to see more of and how you would like to see this much-loved magazine evolve in the future.

What's more, everyone who completes our survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a fabulous two-night bed-and-breakfast break courtesy of Best Loved Hotels.

So, share your views with Army&You before 23 April for your chance to win. Click here.

Transition image
ARE YOU LEAVING THE ARMED FORCES IN THE NEXT 10 MONTHS?
AFF is conducting research into the experience of families when their soldier leaves the Army. We are looking for families who will be transitioning (planned or unplanned) out of the Army no later than February 2018.

We want to follow your transition journey, and a period post-transition, to understand how it works (or not!) for you. You will be asked to complete an initial questionnaire, and will then be contacted periodically to find out how your transition is going.

To find out more or get involved, contact AFF Transition Liaison Rosie Buxton at transition@aff.org.uk

Scotland roadshow
FAMILIES IN SCOTLAND HAVE THEIR SAY
AFF recently ran a short survey of Army families in Scotland to learn more about Army family life there and to help shape our upcoming Scotland roadshow in Kinloss on 23 March.

The main challenges identified by families included differences in education, issues with public transport in some areas and being so far from wider family support. AFF will highlight the themes raised in our survey with the relevant stakeholders at our upcoming Scotland roadshow on 23 March in Kinloss, more details can be found here.

Come along for your chance to win one of three Amazon vouchers for £50, £30 or £20 in our raffle. If you can't attend our roadshow to give your views and ask your questions, you can submit your question in advance to Annabel Ingram, AFF Regional Manager North, at rmnorth@aff.org.uk

AFF Research Symposium
AFF RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM: A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY
Registration for our upcoming Research Symposium on Monday 5 June is live from 27 March. This academic-focussed event will explore the issues Army families face and share findings and research with others also working in this field of work.

The event is being held at the Guy's Campus, King's College London. We are keen to encourage involvement from attendees so there will be an opportunity to participate in discussion sessions in the afternoon and for academics to bid to chair these discussions and present their research.

For more information about leading a discussion session or participating in the poster competition, please contact Michelle Alston, AFF Researcher, at researcher@aff.org.uk
