President's LetterPresLtr
Greetings from the AFP International Fundraising Conference in New Orleans!

It is a privilege to represent the AFP Greater Detroit Chapter this week at our association's premier event. Not only is the conference a great opportunity to enhance my own professional knowledge through continuing education, but attending as chapter president allows me to network with leaders from around the country and bring best practices and ideas back for the benefit of our chapter. I was also very proud to hear the AFP Greater Detroit Chapter recognized as a 2017 Ten Star chapter and Friend of Diversity. Thank you to all of the chapter board members, committee leaders and members who volunteer their time and talents to make these achievements a reality.

The National Philanthropy Day awards nomination window is open earlier than ever before. Check out the link in this newsletter and consider who you would like to see honored on November 8.

I look forward to seeing many of you on April 27 when we welcome internationally known and unmatched fundraising communications expert, Tom Ahern. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from Tom right here in metro Detroit. Register now while there is still space available!

#MeToo Philanthropy
- the impact of #MeToo consciousness on the world of Philanthropy
Thursday, August 16, 2018, 8-10am

The AFP Greater Detroit Chapter looks at the  work environment for philanthropy professionals in the field with donors and other stakeholders, and in the office with our co-workers. The program seeks to discover and share best practices and next steps to help an organization's employees successfully prepare or respond to #MeToo issues, such as:

Preparing   -   Avoiding   -   Deflecting   -   Responding   -   Restoring

Dr. Lee Meadows, Professor of Management, Walsh   College - moderator - and a panel including an attorney, an HR director, a non-profit organization CEO, and an AFP member with #MeToo related experiences both as a development professional and also as a manager of other development professionals, will address experiences shared by chapter members, including results of a member survey. Save the date!

The results of the brief survey below will guide the panel in addressing relevant topics and solutions. Thank you for your input!
