Association of Fundraising Professionals Ottawa
20th annual Philanthropy Awards
Ottawa Convention Centre | 6 p.m. | November 12, 2014

Please join us in three weeks, when six awards will be presented to Ottawa philanthropists, including the Mechanical Contractors Association for Outstanding Philanthropic Group, and Foget Sobeys Stores for Outstanding Small Business Philanthropist.

Outstanding Philanthropic Group: Mechanical Contractors Association

The Mechanical Contractors Association of Ottawa (MCA Ottawa) and its members set an example for philanthropy and community involvement in Ottawa by holding golf tournaments, awarding scholarships and awards, and by making donations. In addition to its ongoing support of the Ottawa Food Bank, MCA Ottawa has extended support to the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, Roger's House, Algonquin College, La Cit, the YMCA/YWCA and the Canadian Mechanical Contractors Education Foundation.

Outstanding Small Business Philanthropist: Foget Sobeys Stores

The Fogets Sobeys Stores, owned and operated by Allan and Joanne Foget, have been a proud ally of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation since 2009. In addition to sponsorship and in-kind donations, they have leveraged their networks to aid the foundation. The Fogets have taken the time to mentor other small businesses to be a catalyst for change in their communities. Their two stores (in Orleans and on March Road in Kanata) support their local food banks and they donate to local charities every time a power play goal is scored by the Ottawa Senators. Read more.

Canadian Leadership Retreat

A contingent of AFP Ottawa Chapter  Leaders participated  to the Canadian Leadership Retreat in Niagara-on-the-Lake in late July. The annual retreat focuses solely on Canadian opportunities and issues within the AFP context. It allows those in attendance to learn more about, and contribute, to the Canadian Council, AFP Foundation for Philanthropy - Canada and Canadian Government Relations strategic plans, as well as discuss hot topics such as opportunities for future leadership and what kind of association  will fundraising professionals need in the future.

The Canadian Leadership Retreat is  a great experience for both seasoned participants and newcomers, as it allows the attendees to get a broader understanding of the size and impact of the AFP world.

Thanks to the leadership of President-Elect Derek deLouch, the AFP Ottawa Chapter has been selected as host of the 2017 Canadian Leadership Retreat  and we hope that many members will plan to participate.
Volunteer Opportunities

AFP Ottawa Chapter has a variety of volunteer opportunities available. If you would like to get involved please contact Melissa McGuirk McNeil at 613-683-3817 or mmmcneil@unitedwayottawa.ca.
