President's Message

Over the past year the board of directors worked hard on behalf of the membership to bring you a range of programming, networking, education and social events that are intended to support your growth and development as a fundraising professional. Together, as a board we worked hard this year to set the strategic direction for the next 3 years by developing a strategic plan to guide our planning and develop our chapter even further.
I would like to personally thank all of the board and committee members for their commitment to their respective roles and for ensuring that our members receive value and support as AFP members. I am continuously impressed and motivated by their volunteer efforts to support the growth of our profession. They have my admiration and gratitude.

Our chapter would not run as smoothly as it does, without the amazing administrative support from Monica Powell. We couldn't do this volunteer work without you Monica - thank you!

If you would like to get involved at a committee level, please get in touch with Monica Powell at afp.vancouverisland@gmail.com and she will connect you with the appropriate committee chair to get you connected and involved!

Its been my pleasure serving as your President this past year. I hope to see you at the AGM on Tuesday, June 21st. Its not too late to register!

President, AFP Vancouver Island

From Survive to Thrive - How Major Gifts and Capital Campaign can take you to a whole new level

Non-profits are obsessed with revenue generation; and so they should be. But too often the story is one of fighting a rearguard action to try to maintain government grants, or scrambling to meet budget by fundraising, or wondering about taking the leap into corporate sponsorship or social enterprise, or trying to figure out how to harness social media to generate revenues. Few non-profit organizations see double-digit percentage annual gains in revenue despite the fact that most can do it - IF they approach the whole area of revenue generation properly and wholistically.  For 26 years, Ross Marsh has been a consultant to non-profits seeking to generate new and/or increased revenues through fundraising, particularly via major gifts and capital campaigns. His presentation makes a very strong case for de-constructing much of the conventional thinking about fundraising and focussing on what ACTUALLY WORKS. This is a FORWARD-LOOKING presentation designed to help participants prepare for the revenue reality of the future in the non-profit world, and to help participants build pro-active and sustainable revenue generation programs for their organizations.

In the small shop, fundraising can be a big job. Having a Board that is involved in raising money can make a huge impact and help you raise hundreds of thousands more than you can do alone. Unfortunately, many nonprofit organizations struggle with Boards that are well-meaning but reluctant and inexperienced in fundraising. In this training, we'll uncover the reasons why Board members won't help with fundraising and how to overcome them. You'll learn how to match up the right fundraising activities with the right Board members, and how to give them the tools, skills, and knowledge they need to succeed.  You'll get tips for holding them accountable and for providing them the support they need so they can help you raise big money.
