AFP Morning Tea and Coffee Click - Where people and ideas just 'click'!
There will be no Coffee Click in December.  Join us in the New Year on January 4th at 8:00 am in the Hillside Mall Food Court. The purpose of these meetings is to  discuss local fundraising concerns, to network and meet people that will enrich our efforts and energy for fundraising and to bring new and potential Island AFP members together. Congratulations to our AFP Scholarship Recipients!

Andrea Gilbert
Recipient of the Chamberlain Scholarship and the John Saunders Scholarship
Andrea's professional career has been driven by her passion for utilizing media and communications strategies to educate, empower and provoke social change.  A producer, videographer, writer and editor, Andrea began her career in film, working in broadcast, independent and corporate production before following her passion to apply her skills and experience in the non-profit sector.  She has now worked around the world in countries such as Cambodia, Peru, China, Vietnam and Lebanon supporting the media efforts of organizations working to make the world a better place.  Currently Andrea does Communications and Creative Services for Mercy Ships Canada and produces the Global Sorority Media Initiative for the Passion to Lead Foundation ( http://www.globalsorority.com/film), as well as other freelance work.  Andrea holds a technical degree in Video Production and Media Communications from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and a Master of Arts degree in Intercultural and International Communication from Royal Roads University.


Jessica Bell
Recipient of a Professional Development Scholarship
Jessica Bell has been a passionate fundraising professional for over 15 years and has focused on health issues affecting children, families and seniors in our community. She has worked extensively with philanthropists across Vancouver Island and prior to her current role as Director of Development at Broadmead Care, she led strategic regional fundraising efforts in BC Children's Hospital Foundation's Vancouver Island Office. She has worked extensively with philanthropists all across the Island and is well respected in the fundraising community for her professionalism and integrity. Jessica is a member of both the Canadian Gift Planners Association and the Association of Fundraising Professionals and maintains an active Certified Fund Raising Executive designation.  






Lori Angelini
Recipient of a Professional Development Scholarship
Lori has been fundraising for the not-for-profit sector for more than 10 years with a special focus on major gift philanthropy. She has worked as development professional for post-secondary education, health care, and most recently social services. Lori joined the Our Place team in June 2015 and recently took on the role Director of Development. She is also the current Communications Chair of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Vancouver Island.

How is Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) impacting your organization? A short survey was developed by Imagine Canada, the Ontario Non-profit Network and other partners to help inform sector recommendations as part of the CASL review slated for 2017. Your perspective matters - have your voice heard. Participation in this 5-minute survey by AFP Vancouver Island members is strongly encouraged. The survey is anonymous, and all responses will be kept confidential. Thank you for your insights to help inform the conversation for our sector.

The University of Victoria Cultural Resource Management Program is offering a 6-day intensive course on Fundraising for Cultural Organizations with instructor Dianne Lister. This course can be taken individually for professional development, or for credit as part of a Diploma in Cultural Resource Management.
 
Fundraising for Cultural Organizations; May 8-13, 2017
Learn how to generate operating revenue through philanthropy, sponsorship, private-public partnerships, in-kind gifts, and other various fundraising activities. Through this course, you will consider donors as investors in the community-building capacity of your organization. New trends in private sector philanthropy will be explored in relation to the strategic vision and management of heritage and museum organizations.

This course will help you to:
  • Develop and use tools and strategies for future fundraising activities
  • Understand legal and governance issues
  • Attract and retain donors  as investors and partners
  • Plan your fundraising strategies
