He is risen! What now?

What an amazing week it has been! We experienced beautiful and moving worship services on Thursday and Friday of Holy Week. And then Sunday came. With it being my first Easter morning here at AFUMC, I didn't really know what to expect. And let me be the first to say, everything I experienced was beyond my expectations! Almost 4,000 people experienced a lively and celebratory Easter morning. Personally, I experienced three worship services that were all rich and offered an incredible diversity of music, liturgy, preaching and hospitality. In ALL of these things, the resurrected Christ was lifted up. And THAT is what it's all about. That's what it should always be about.

And then Monday came. And things felt a bit "flat." Regular weekday routines started back up. The daily grind cranked back up for another lap on the treadmill. But the same proclamations that we made on Sunday were true on Monday. He is risen! Hallelujah.

We all live in the "what now?" part of the resurrection story. We proclaim that the tomb is empty, but do we have anything else to do or say? It is with some of these thoughts in mind that I've had the privilege of writing the daily devotions for Daily Dose from now through Pentecost on June 4. In it, I explore some of the thoughts and traits that are important as we proclaim the resurrection and expect the Holy Spirit. I hope you'll join me -- just follow the Daily Dose with Dr. Don Facebook page or visit www.afumc.org/dailydose, and feel free to share the link with others.

I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday, as we CONTINUE to proclaim that He is risen! That's part of the joy of Easter -- it means we get to shout it from our souls each and every day. (And don't forget to sign up for Great Day of Service, coming up on April 29.)

In His Grip,

Rev. Brad Greene, Associate Pastor

When we serve others in the name of  Christ, we become doorways through  which others can experience God's love. Here are a few ways that Alpharetta Methodist members have been  opening doors for others.
  • Our Prayer Team partnered with Stephen Ministry in March to offer a Time of Healing, Wholeness and Renewal. The Prayer Team transformed the Methodist Youth Center into a warm, beautiful, peaceful, inviting space of worship and contemplation. The team prepared and prayed, hoping that someone would come and find benefit and comfort. The space was open for over three hours, and it was occupied nearly the entire time! It was very clear that many of those who took part were moved in a very deep way.
  • Nine Alpharetta Methodist members traveled to South Georgia, March 23-26, to help the region recover from tornadoes. They repaired a home and distributed Buddy Bags to children.

  • Nearly 4,000 people worshiped in our sanctuaries on Easter Sunday, and dozens of volunteers poured their time, skills and energy into making the special day a success. Among those who helped were g reeters, who welcomed each guest with a smile; u shers, who found seating for everyone -- even in the choir loft;  the audio/video team, which ensured that worship services flowed smoothly and live-streamed traditional services to the overflow are a; t he Chancel Choir, musicians, Bluegrass and Vinebranch Bands, each of which provided joyful music of praise and celebration; v olunteers who baked muffins or prepared coffee for the overflow area;  parking lot attendants, who helped direct traffic; our  photographers, who captured the special occasion in pictures; and the Sanctuary Stewards, who cleaned, polished and vacuumed every inch of the Sanctuary to make it a clean and welcoming place to worship. Thanks also goes to every c hurch member who invited a friend with a personal invitation or by sharing a postcard or social media post about Easter services .

  • Several church members serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) to help children. They received special training as  community volunteers and are appointed by a judge to speak on behalf of children who have been abused or neglected. Learn more about CASA in Fulton County or Forsyth County.
