 What You Need to Know

The DOL's New Overtime Rule: More Than Just a Compliance Decision

AGC MA members are reminded that significant changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) as it pertains to overtime payment requirements go into effect December 1, 2016.  Many employers will need to review policies for classifying employees under the FLSA, determining how wage payments are calculated, and developing policies for consistent recordkeeping and legal compliance. 


Hot Work Safety Course
 
As a result of the March 26, 2014, tragic fire on Beacon Street, which took the lives of Firefighter Lieutenant Ed Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy, there has been a concerted effort to increase fire safety awareness and construction worker practices on job sites where hot work operations are conducted. 

Per the Boston Fire Department Fire Prevention Code Article 8, Hot Work Operations, all persons conducting Hot Work will be required to have completed a Boston Hot Work Safety Certificate Program.



AGC MA Building Women in Construction Launches BWiC Profiles 

AGC launches the first of a monthly series that will high-light various women working in the construction industry in Massachusetts to serve as a learning platform for aspiring students and industry colleagues. The profiles will share the challenges women face in a male -dominated work-place, best practices, success stories and more. On Friday, September 30, 2016 Mayor Marty Walsh, Cisco's Shari Slate & the Mayor's Office of Women's Advancement along with 20 area CEO's and 200 participants gathered at the Omni Parker House for the second annual Best Practices conference hosted by the Boston Women's Workforce Council. The conference featured roundtable discussions about best practices to close the gender wage gap.
