Closely Held Businesses and Compensation Plans
How to ARM Your Key Employees for Success

Provided By: AGC MA Member Douglas J Di Cerbo, Northwestern Mutual

Most business owners would love to have employees who are as passionate about the company as they are. It makes sense: The future of a closely-held or family business depends on how securely its select employees are tied to it. But creating an environment where employees feel like owners doesn't happen overnight.

To ensure the continued success of a business, owners need to ARM - attract, retain and motivate - key employees who can help grow and sustain their business. For many closely held companies, a well-designed compensation strategy that is directly connected to the growth  plan of the business may be the answer.

AGC/KSC Partnership to Establish a Construction Safety Degree
at
Keene State College, Keene, NH

Employers expect to hire over 25,000 OHS professionals in the next five years (2012 - 2017) of which 71% will be safety professionals, and of that, 76% expect to have bachelor's degrees. Contributing to the demand for a qualified workforce is the "graying" (retiring) of current professionals creating a need for new safety professionals who will outpace the number of baccalaureate-prepared graduates by 100% in five years.

The partnership between Keene State College and the Association of General Contractors (AGC) will offer the first-in-the-nation construction safety degrees.
