Region 11

It's hard to believe that we are thinking about " horse" season beginning once again in Region XI! Some people refer to it as show season, some call it riding season.  Whatever you want to call it, there are so many events coming in the first half of 2018 that we almost need individual calendars for each type of event!
Opening the show season is the MO Extravaganza in Lake St. Louis, Mo. in mid March.
This is followed by Arabian Springfest the first weekend in April in Rantoul, Ill.  Immediately on its tail comes the Iowa Spring Show in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with the Border Bonanza the following week in Sedalia, Mo.  Sandwiched in the middle of all these comes a clinic put on by GKCAHA featuring clinician Tom Theisen.  Naturally, qualifying is high on the minds of those who like to play the show game.

But wait, there's more!!  These few activities only introduce us to horse season in Region XI.  There are so many more clinics, trail rides, 4-H and FFA activities, county fairs and other events during which you can enjoy your horse and the company of other Arabian horse enthusiasts that it is indeed hard to keep track.  In fact,  there are multitudes of ways for people from all over the country to enjoy the Arabian horse in Region XI this year, so come check us out!!

As some of you may know, this year is the 25th Anniversary of Equine Affaire, which will be held in Columbus, Ohio this April.  Did you know that Equine Affaire was started in Ohio...and all because of an Arabian horse?

I am overseeing the success of this year's Arabian participation, but we can't do it without everyone's help!  While we received a small amount of funding from the Region, we still have many costs involved for promo materials, booth materials, and just overall needs to make our presentation the best possible. We have horses confirmed for just about every discipline, and Mary Trowbridge has been working diligently to help as well by getting Goldie (life size model) confirmed and delivered for our event as well. The Equine Affaire staff is also being over the top amazing in making sure that the Arabian is THE horse at this year's event. Won't you step up and help us be able to present the Arabian as it so deserves?

I'm asking for each Region 14 club to pitch in at least $150-$200. This will help ensure that during our 4-day stay we will have our needs close to being covered. Some of our exhibitors are travelling out of state and many hours to stay and share their beloved Arabians with the public, and will of course have their own out of pocket expenses, and this would help make sure other materials are available for us to use.  With this, you may also send flyers, brochures, or other information that we will share at our booth and on our event face-book page. If you wish to join us in promoting, please respond no later than February 9 so I can complete our budget. I appreciate your time and assistance in promoting the Arabian horse!

Please feel free to reach out to me directly, or to Region 14 Director, Duane Esser, with questions.

REGION 14 PURSUES THEIR ARABIAN HORSE FOR HUMANITY PROJECT

It all starts with a charity and a vision.   Children and the Arabian horse go together hand and hand. The Charity selected is Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
The goal of the region is to promote the Arabian horse through the creatively charitable program developed by Arabian Horse Association's own Market Development and Promotion Committee.

Currently the Region's horse is in production and soon to be delivered. Meanwhile the search for a source of talent to create a final product that will inspire many who encounters him. That search lead me to The Art Institute of Cincinnati who was in search of a project such as this.  I spent an afternoon with the students explaining the whole project.
The Art Institute of Cincinnati is a technical art college that is known for its excellence. Director of admissions, Mrs. Cyndi Mendell was delighted we had contacted her about the project. The college has won countless national competitions with students submitting their work.  Beyond all of awards this college has achieved, the students have produced many commercial designs for many companies.  The hallway walls of the Institute are a walk of Fame of their very impressive work.

Many were intrigued by the beautiful sculpture created by Karen Kasper of Lexington Kentucky. They also were inspired by the children's charity concept.  I was able to use a large screen to project pictures of Goldie and proposed vision and ideas for the Region 14 horse.  Many notes and sketching had begun during my presentation.

A template was produced of Goldie and several sketched ideas are being created for review and then final approval.
