Region 3

Fires burning throughout California...As you have seen on  social media and major television networks, there have been fires of unequaled proportions in many parts of California.  The worst being in Santa Rosa, Napa, Calistoga and surrounding areas.  The heart of Region III.  Lives have been lost and damages beyond imagination.  Thousand of homes burned.  On Facebook people are shown volunteering to help process animals at local fairgrounds.  One fairgrounds has accepted 300 horses and expecting 200 more. Asking for supplies.  Trucks with horse trailers hooked up are ready to assist anyone who contacts them.   As I write this, the fires are still uncontrolled and are raging in full force towards Calistoga.  Horses are being turned lose as evacuations are immediate and dangerous.   This area is a beautiful tourist site with historic wineries, some of which have been burned down.  Such destruction.

I pray at the time you read  this the fires have been brought under control and there have been no more loss of life.

Region III  offer our condolences to the Paul Mehew family.  Marci Mehew has lost her battle with Cancer.  She was a beautiful, vivacious individual.  Her presentations in the show ring showed her talents.  Marci will be missed.

Wine Country Arabian Horse Association along with Northern California Saddlebred Association and the Bay Area Fox Trotter Association teamed up to host the Autumn Edition Horse Show  an Open Breed Western and English Show at the Sonoma County Fairgrouds on October 7, it was a great success we plan to hold 3 of these open shows next year.  Our Annual Open All Breed Halloween Schooling Show & Playday is coming up October 29.  It will be held at Santa Rosa Horse Company. This is open to all breeds.  Great Awards and special trophies for the playday classes, we will have a Silent Bid Auction with the proceeds being donated to the Victims of the Sonoma and Napa County Fire victims. The Dressage Schooling show Series have been a great hit.  We have one more to go for this year October 28.  A group of 10 riders went on a 3 day overnight camping trip to Stewart Horse Camp in Olema.  Everyone had a great time. Coming up will be heading to Convention in November, we are excited as our club has been nominated in all 3 Categories for Club of Year Awards. Region XI Championship Show returning to Illinois State Fairgrounds

We are pleased to announce that the Region XI Championship Show (main ring) is returning to the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Springfield, IL in 2018. The dates are July 4-8, 2018. We were pleased to come to an agreement with the fairgrounds officials to make two additional areas available for lunging and working horses. This will be a big help, as the Coliseum is still out of service until renovations can be planned and completed.
Best of luck to all our Region XI friends exhibiting at US Nationals!

Region 17 Championship Show Review and an Invitation to the 2018 Show:

As many of you know, Region 17 held its Regional Show in Calgary this past July.  Besides a well run show and a great panel of judges, exhibitors and friends enjoyed a barbecue provided by the Calgary Stampede; a progressive barn party; a barn dinner hosted by the Barn Stomp Committee and AgPro.  As you read this I am sure you can see that the theme for our show is that we love to eat!  Other activities that are a highlight for many are the dog races and the many youth activities.  There literally is something for everyone - every day of the show.  The reports we are hearing about the Region 17 show is that it is getting better each year.

The 2018 Regional Show will be held May 2 -7 at Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, BC.  Are you interested in showing at the regional show but not qualified yet?  There will be qualifying shows in Region 4 & 5 as well as the VIAHA and BC Half Arabian Association shows in April of 2018 to qualify. There will be a pre show as well.  So, we hope to see many exhibitors for a great regional show at a great venue!

New Regional Executive

At the October Region 17 meeting Rob Calnan was appointed the Regional Director and Sylvia Carruthers, the Vice Director for 2017 - 2019.  Terry Johnson, having completed 4 years as director, moves to Past Director.  Karen Caughell continues to serve as Regional Treasurer and Gary Millar has accepted to serve as Regional Secretary.  The election of Show Commission members also saw Gail Tory and Doug Archibald elected to the show commission to serve for 3 years.

Rebranding of the Stallion Auction

We are excited to have a committee that is rejuvenated and committed to making our stallion auction standout.  This Futurity is the best payout program in Canada!
The Halter Futurity for Yearlings born as a result of the 2015 Auction (born in 2017) has a total purse of $3285.00 - payable in 2018.

The Performance Futurity for 4 Year Olds born as a result of the 2012 Auction has a total purse of $7189.52, plus the $1713.60 carry forward from funds not paid in 2016 due to no performance horse entries that year now equals $8903.12, payable in 2018. All of this money will be paid out to the entrants. If any of the classes have fewer than five entrants, the percentage will remain the same for those placed, and the remaining prize money will be divided among those in the classes.

There are still breedings available for the 2017 year, so check the website out!

Youth Scholarship Winner

Congratulations to Arianna Bell who has been awarded the Region 17 Youth Scholarship.  The committee was impressed by all of the submissions.  These young people are wonderful ambassadors for our organization.  The committee was impressed not only by our youth exhibitors' scholastic achievements but also with their sportsmanship, volunteerism and commitment to our wonderful Arabian breed.

Arianna received glowing recommendations from teachers and coaches alike. This individual carried exemplary grades all the while showing her horses in open competitions as well as Arabian competitions. She somehow found the time to volunteer as assistant coach for her high school Ringette team and was instrumental in the rehabilitation of a large herd of rescued Arabian horses.  Congratulations Arianna.

High Point Awards

It's that time again for members who are participating in the Region 17 High Points Awards Program to submit their entries.  The High Points Program was developed to recognize and encourage the participation of members in Region 17 show.  Awards will be provided to the champion and reserve in each of the following divisions:

-        Western Pleasure
-        English/Country Pleasure
-        Hunter Pleasure
-        Sport Hose
-        Main Ring Halter

Check the Region 17 website for more information. Submission forms and deadlines
