Call for Mentors
ACE Mentor Program

Founded in 2007, the ACE Mentor Program of Charlotte is a nonprofit, after-school mentoring program for high school young people interested in architecture, construction, and engineering. The program is currently serving 200 students from CPCC's Central Campus, UNCC Charlotte, Hopewell High School, Myers Park High School, Ardrey Kell High School and East Mecklenburg High School. Under the mentorship of over eighty local industry professionals, students take office tours, participate in hands-on activities and field trips, and work in teams on projects that simulate "real-life" situations.

Mentors are needed for this worthy program, and the next mentor training date is August 25. Contact Luke Volkmar, AIA, to indicate your interest and learn more.

Is your firm interested in projects in China?

China has announced the relocation of a large part of government administrative functions from Beijing to a major new district to be developed in Baoding, China. The initiative will involve a massive building effort for a period of many years. Fortunately for those of us in the Queen City, Charlotte and Baoding are Sister Cities. As a result, there are opportunities through government and private channels to explore partnerships between Charlotte and Baoding design firms to pursue these projects.

An event is being planned for September 21in Beijing with Baoding officials to explore these opportunities. If you wish to attend, would like to learn more, or would like your firm named among those interested, contact Jim Williams, AIA, by August 28.
