Congratulations to Cheryl Walker, FAIA, principal at Bergmann Associates, who was awarded the 2016  William H. Deitrick Service Medal  at the AIA NC Design and Chapter Awards Ceremony on November 10. The award is given each year to a member who exhibits extraordinary service to the community, profession, or AIA North Carolina.  Read more  about Cheryl's other accomplishments and contributions to the profession.

General Shale Brick Cleveland County Plant, 1622 Long Branch Road, Grover, NC 

AIA Charlotte Women in Architecture invite you to tour the General Shale Brick plant and witness the manufacturing process and equipment used to make brick in a modern tunnel kiln. Attendees will learn about quality control procedures, lab testing, brick color development, and special shape production. Lunch will be provided by General Shale. 

All are invited. Bring a hard hat. Attendees earn 1 LU.

Webcast: Post-Election Outlook for Design and Construction

Kermit Baker of the AIA, Ken Simonson of the AGC, and Alex Carrick of ConstructConnect, three of the design and construction sector's leading economists, will host a webcast on November 17 addressing the post-election economy: likely impacts on housing, private nonresidential investment, infrastructure and other public projects; labor availability; and materials prices, among other topics. Last week, Mecklenburg County released the 2016 State of the Environment Report, a tool used to benchmark regional air, land, water, and waste conditions. The report has been issued biennially since 1987 and the newest edition is now online
