Bechtler Modernism + Film: "Modern Times"

Friday, March 20 | 6:00 p.m.
The Bechtler | 420 S. Tryon Street

Modern Times
presents a critical look at the American industrial revolution. Released in 1936, it is the final screen appearance for Chaplin's character the Little Tramp. Tied to pantomime comedy that made the Tramp famous, Chaplin was reluctant to embrace movies with dialogue. However, dialogue was used during a few of the film's scenes including Chaplin's own voice as a singing waiter. More info here

Presentation: Neil Lerner, Professor of Music at Davidson College, will speak before the film screening. Since 1997, Lerner has taught courses in music history, the humanities, and film and media studies.

Mayor's Youth Employment Program and ACE

The ACE Program Needs YOU

One of the most common questions we get is "How can I help?" ACE is currently searching for companies who can take on our ACE students as summer interns. Internships provide valuable work experience for our students interested in pursuing careers in the fields of architecture, construction and engineering. Our students are interested in getting more training, but the summer opportunities are simply lacking in these fields. ACE partners with the Mayor's Youth Employment Program to place qualified students in summer employment opportunities. If you think your company might be a good fit, please reach out to ACE Board Secretary, Kathleen Santimaw at [email protected] to get more information. All internship positions need to be secured by May 1.
