At our November Membership Meeting, Patrick G. Granson, MCP, CBO, LEED-AP, who succeeded Jim Bartl, AIA, as Director of Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement on September 1, will give an update of Code Enforcement Office news.  

This will also serve as the 2017 annual business meeting. Please come prepared to vote on the slate of Board Officers and Directors who will serve through the 2018 calendar year. 

The meeting is free to members and sponsors, and lunch is provided beginning at 11:30 am; the program starts promptly at noon. Non-members pay $45 to attend. All must register.

The night kicks off with heavy hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and live music in the beautiful lobby of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Then settle in at the Knight Theater where we'll honor architectural excellence and the exceptional work of our design and service award recipients. Close out the evening with coffee and dessert.

Small Firm Roundtable
on November 9

Mark Antonuccio, CSI, CDT, Assoc. AIA, presents Fenestration in Contemporary Residential (and Commercial) Applications when the Small Firm Roundtable meets on November 9. 

Lunch starts at 11:30 and the program begins promptly at noon. Members attend free; non-members pay $25; all must register.

Please note: the Roundtable does not have a second meeting in November. The next meeting/last of the year will be December 14.

Call for Presenters
2018 Small Firm Roundtable

The Small Firm Roundtable 2018 calendar is now open for interested presenters who offer 1-hour AIA-accredited HSW presentations. 

 

The group meets on second and fourth Thursdays of each month at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille in Charlotte. AIA Charlotte staff coordinates promotion, registration, and catering. Presenters are responsible for bringing a laptop to run their presentation, paying the restaurant at the end of the seminar (average $750), and filing course attendance through the AIA CES system.

USGBC NC Roundtable on Growth in Charlotte

AIA Charlotte has partnered with the USGBC NC chapter as they present an expert roundtable discussion on Growth in Charlotte, including community development challenges and opportunities through the lens of economics, transportation, and human experience. Panelists include Charlotte Chamber president and CEO Bob Morgan, Sustain Charlotte Program Director Meg Fencil, Laura Simmons from UNC Charlotte's Urban Institute, and CATS CEO John M. Lewis, Jr. Charlotte Center City Partners' Richard Thurmond moderates.

AIA Charlotte Board Endorses School Bonds


AIA Charlotte's Board of Directors voted to endorse the 2017 School Bonds Referendum that will appear on the ballot in November and encourages you to learn more and get involved by visiting the "Vote Yes For Bonds" campaign website .

ai Design Group is now Progressive AE


 

As of November 1, ai Design Group has finalized its merger with Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Progressive AE and officially adopted their name. The office will remain in Charlotte. Read the full press release

UNC Charlotte Associate Professor Awarded AIA Upjohn Grant

Associate professor at UNC Charlotte's School of Architecture Dr. Kyounghee Kim has been awarded an 2017 AIA Upjohn Research Initiative Grant ($30,000) for Biophilic Architecture: Sustainable Materialization of Microalgae Facades in support of her research on high-performance building envelope design.
