"Timber Framing - the lost and found building art"
Continuing Education Workshop
Presented by AIA Indiana
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Timber framing has been the predominate structural system for buildings since the dawn of civilization. From the time that Neolithic man first sharpened his bronze tools and building skills, he built his shelter from logs and timbers connected with interlocking joints. While the industrial revolution of the nineteenth century drove timber framing to near extinction, it has risen from the ashes and experienced a renaissance.
The modern timber frame is not just a benign structural system but a sculptural form that adds drama and elegance to architecture. Technology has transformed this ancient building art to a sophisticated structural system with a precision and efficiency that is unrivaled by its pre-industrial ancestors. When combined with Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) cladding, the timber frame structure becomes an extremely energy efficient and sustainable building form. The application of timber framing is not limited to residential buildings but also includes institutional and commercial buildings.
This program will cover the architectural, technical and practical aspects of incorporating timber framing into a project. You will find this program to be informative, entertaining and inspirational - it is not to be missed.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
This program will earn six (6) AIA/CES Learning Units qualifying for health, safety & welfare credit. AIA Indiana will report these credits to AIA for all AIA members attending. AIA Indiana will provide attendance certificates.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
