President's Message:
Paul Dannels

Please consider marking your calendars for Saturday June 7, when the 2014 AIA Michigan Honor Awards will be presented at The Broad Art Museum in East Lansing. I'm pleased that we're bringing this event to the MSU campus, and and hoping that many of you will take advantage of the opportunity to travel from around the state and visit this beautiful new museum on a summer evening when it's set aside just for our use.

Enjoying time to celebrate the accomplishments of Michigan architects is always rewarding, but I have to admit that I have a new perspective on just how much exceptional work is done in Michigan having had the opportunity to see all 72 entries this year. It's not just the award winners that are inspiring; all of the submitted projects speak clearly to the value that we as architects bring to our communities, and collectively they're cause for considerable pride in our profession. We'll be sure to find a way to celebrate all of this work, not just the winners, when we meet. I look forward to seeing you then.

In the meantime, always feel free to contact me... [email protected]

Wishing you the best in your practice...

NCARB Announces Proposal to Adjust IDP Credit Beyond Six-Month Rule!

With an expected adoption effectiveness no later than January 1, 2015, NCARB is adjusting the IDP process which shall help many catching up their IDP hours.  From this State Coordinator's view point, this assists professionals who are licensed in other jurisdictions, but did not have an internship requirement.  This now expedites the process in which they may be able to gain reciprocity.  And for us busy interns who just happen to have let their reporting slip their "to-do list", it helps to make all not lost.

From NCARB:

"The specific adjustment would, for the first time, allow credit for intern experience that occurred up to five years beyond the current reporting requirements. Credit for experience beyond the reporting period would be valued at 50 percent for up to five years, after which any experience would be ineligible for credit..."
