Executive Director's Message:
Cathy HeadshotHappy June!

This past week you received the official announcement of the new Green Health Summit in your inbox. The summit, held this year on September 8th, will kick-off Stair Week in Michigan. The committee has gathered an impressive group of speakers and panelists from across the country for the summit and we know it will reinforce Michigan's prominence in the evolution of design. Spaces are limited for the conference, so be sure to register as soon as possible! Registration will open to other design and health organizations and media coverage about the event will launch next month, so don't wait if you are thinking about attending this innovative program.

Don't forget that we have the Mid Summer Conference on August 7-9th-- just over a month away! And only a few weeks after enjoying the island breeze you can return to a rustic setting away from the traffic and congestion of the city at the Design Retreat, which will commemorate its 25th anniversary this year. The Retreat will be held September 19-20th and the committee has planned special activities and events to celebrate the occasion! More information will be coming soon, so mark your calendar for this much-anticipated event!

In the fall there will be an important change to the AIA Michigan event calendar. The Annual Meeting usually falls at the end of October and this year it will be held in combination with the Leadership Retreat, (usually held in January). This year's Annual Meeting + Leadership Conference will be held from October 9-11th and will offer members an opportunity for leadership training, continuing education and several exciting tours! Instead of waiting until January to dig into the year, your local chapter boards will be ready to start innovating after your Board Transition! Mark your calendar for October 9-11th and look for more announcements in the coming weeks!

I would love to hear your ideas about our programs and events, so please contact me anytime and I hope to see you at an AIA Michigan event this summer!

Special Gift to AIA Michigan from Tyree Guyton

A more detailed description of Tyree Guyton's gift to AIA Michigan as mentioned in the article above:

Tyree Guyton gift

Title:  A New Way

Description: Paint on wood

History:  An original relic salvaged from the House of Soul which was created in 2012 and destroyed by fire in 2013

Concept: "The House of Soul was created to serve as visual for my dissertation work. What is art today?  Can 2+2=8?  Part of my philosophy is to transform adversity into solutions.   You can burn it down but you can never destroy the creative spirit and the magic that lives within.  I present this work as a small gesture of kindness to the AIA Michigan for recognizing my work and to say thank you for believing in the power of creativity."
