Happy Monday!

I have returned from a very informative and entertaining AIA National Convention, held last week in Chicago, and although I enjoyed my time in the Windy City, I am glad to be back in the office to work on our upcoming events!

I would like to thank Herman Miller and Harley Ellis Devereaux for sponsoring the special Convention reception for AIA Michigan members and LTU and UDM alumni! It was a great opportunity to celebrate and reconnect with friends at Convention and it wouldn't have happened without our generous sponsors.

August is just around the corner, so that means the Mid Summer Conference will be here soon! Make sure to register before the deadline on July 7th and we can't wait to see you on the island.

Registration is now open for the Green Health Summit and space is limited so please register as soon as possible. We are bracing ourselves for what is projected to be an overwhelming response from other organizations, caused by the media coverage of the event that will launch next month. I want all AIA Michigan members to have the first opportunity to register because when registration is open to other design and health organizations in the state the seats will fill quickly, so don't get left out!

We are excited for the Tigers Tailgate on September 12th! We have opened registration and the flyer is below for more information. Join us for a delicious tailgate feast at the DAC followed by a great game against the Cleveland Indians!

Have a great week and remember to contact me anytime with your ideas or if you would like to join a committee!

Exciting NCARB Update for Licensure Candidates!
NCARB announced last week that the ARE Retake Policy will be shortened to allow three retakes a year, abolishing the current 6 month wait restrictions! From the official announcement:

'"NCARB is actively listening to candidate concerns, and the six-month wait to retest is often noted as a significant frustration," said NCARB CEO Mike Armstrong. "A new feature of our exam support capacity allows us to provide greater access while maintaining exam integrity."

This change, which goes into effect on 1 October 2014, is possible because of a recent system implementation of My Examination in late 2013 that provided NCARB with a sophisticated technology platform to better implement candidate management services. This crucial improvement allows NCARB to decrease the wait time between retesting on a division while ensuring the protection of exam content."

AIAMI/MAF Speakers Bureau: Call for Presentations
AIA Michigan and the MAF want to get the word out about the benefits architects provide to their communities. To accomplish this we are gathering passionate speakers to create the Speakers Bureau which, in conjunction with our local chapters, will bring exciting, informative presentations to organizations around the state. This is a great opportunity for our members to raise awareness about their firm's work and their passion while advocating for the architectural profession.

Applications are being accepted until October 31, 2014 for the 2015 program. If you are a member in good standing and would like to join the Speakers Bureau, please review the Call for Presentations and the Speaker Questionnaire

Please visit the Speakers Bureau webpage and if you have any questions, contact the Speakers Bureau Task Force:
