Happy Monday!
The staff is back from a productive Leadership Retreat and Annual Meeting in Flint where we had the pleasure of listening to continuing education from Edward Woods from MSAE and Lindy Hunt from PCIA and Fred Butters, FAIA. Many chapters participated and enjoyed the tour of the Flint Institute of Arts and commented how pleasantly surprised they were of the progression of the city!
Join the Cranbrook Art Museum for Crandemonium on November 1, 2014 and spend "an evening where anything is possible". All proceeds go towards the Museum's education programs benefiting the underserved areas in the region!
The Markitect Seminar scheduled for November 6th with AIAMI and SMPS is currently full with a wait list and will not be accepting any others on the wait list. However, due to popular demand we will keep this list and look into repeating this seminar at a later date.
The next ARE Seminar is scheduled for November 8, 2014 from 8:30a.m to 4:30p.m. We will be discussing Structural and Building Systems. Breakfast and Lunch is included in the cost.
Lastly, please remember that December 11, 2014 is the AIA Michigan Board Transition Meeting followed by the Holiday Open House from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Please mark your calendars for this event!
Have a great week and remember to contact me anytime with your ideas or if you would like to join a committee!

AIAMI/MAF Speakers Bureau: Call for Presentations
|
AIA Michigan and the MAF want to get the word out about the benefits architects provide to their communities. To accomplish this we are gathering passionate speakers to create the Speakers Bureau which, in conjunction with our local chapters, will bring exciting, informative presentations to organizations around the state. This is a great opportunity for our members to raise awareness about their firm's work and their passion while advocating for the architectural profession.
Applications are being accepted until October 31, 2014 for the 2015 program. If you are a member in good standing and would like to join the Speakers Bureau, please review the Call for Presentations and the Speaker Questionnaire.
Please visit the Speakers Bureau webpage and if you have any questions, contact the Speakers Bureau Task Force:

Clifford Holforty, AIA, PE Architecture Book Collection Donated by Ralph W. Moxley,AIA, LEED AP
|
After my father-in-law, Clifford Holforty, passed on, the family was faced with how to manage his extensive architecture book collection. With the intent of finding new homes for most of the 130 architecture books, the family asked that they be donated to architecture schools in Michigan, preferably those schools he had attended, or a public library that would emphasize and display architecture books. They requested that each donated book include a decal inside the front cover that states "Donated by Clifford Holforty, AIA, PE".
