Happy Monday!

Last week, I announced the Stair Week event in Ann Arbor, and this week the Flint Chapter's event will take center stage. The AIA Flint Stair Week 2014: Networking Breakfast will take place September 9th from 9:30-11am. A local school will serve as the venue, which is great for promoting healthy design in a community hub and to engage students in this important conversation with architects and other design professionals as well as the media, health professionals, and community leaders. Register here to support this free event!

Last week we opened registration for the Design Retreat! This year is the 25th Anniversary Celebration of this unique program and the committee has been busy planning special events to commemorate this milestone. The event also offers participants 6 HSW and 3 LU continuing education hours! See the flyer below or click here to register.

A few of the other upcoming events this fall include:

Registration is closing soon for the Green Health Summit and space is limited so please register as soon as possible.

Have you registered for the Tigers Tailgate on September 12th? Registration is open and the flyer is below for more information. Join us for a delicious tailgate feast at the DAC followed by a great game against the Cleveland Indians!

The "Markitect" event will be held on November 6th. We have teamed up with the Society for Marketing Professional Services to help our member firms advance their companies. If you work at a big firm and don't know what the marketing staff does or if you work at a small firm and do the marketing yourself, there will be valuable insight for everyone. Check out our website for more information and to register!

Have a great week and remember to contact me anytime with your ideas or if you would like to join a committee!

This is a great opportunity for our members to raise awareness about their firm's work and their passion while advocating for the architectural profession.

MHPN 20th Annual Fall Benefit

The Michigan Historic Preservation Network's 20th Annual Fall Benefit will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014. Members and friends of the Michigan Historic Preservation Network (MHPN) have gotten together every fall for twenty years and the MHPN always chooses a noteworthy historic venue as the evening's backdrop.  This year's venue is the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, a building with a story of stunning reclamation.  Detroit architect Mortimer Smith designed the exquisite Second Empire faade of the Tibbits Opera House built in 1882.  The following decades brought changes and neglect but a recent restoration effort has restored the opera house to its original glory and it must be seen to be believed!

MHPN Tibbits Opera House

The public is invited to the MHPN's 20th Annual Fall Benefit which includes strolling dinner fare and dessert, a hosted beer and wine bar, opera house tours, silent and live auctions, and more.  RSVP by Friday, October 3, at 6:00 PM. For more information, go to the visit the MHPN website, call 517-371-8080, or e-mail [email protected]. The website also includes information on the evening's commuter bus.
