Manufacturers' Sales Survey for First 6 Months of 2014

A free service ALA provides to manufacturer members is our biannual survey of manufacturers' sales. The survey provides participating manufacturers with up-to-date information on both the number of unit sales and total dollars for 19 different lighting products.

The survey form we will send to participating manufacturers this week will cover sales for the first six months of the year.

The survey has proven its worth, as members have current, accurate data on which to base future production decisions.

2014 Lighting Magazine Meeting with Strong Interest
This year's edition of our Lighting magazine, which is produced in partnership with Better Homes and Gardens magazine, is following a trend that started five years ago, as we have already distributed 85 percent of the 200,000 copies given to ALA to member lighting showrooms and interior design businesses.

Special thanks to our 43 advertisers who make this valuable tool possible.

Government Affairs - Current Challenges and
Their Statuses
A) Ceiling Fans/Ceiling Fan Light Kits

The DOE is expected to release their proposals for enhanced energy efficiency requirements any day.

ALA and the industry are prepared and will respond with the help of the legal counsel whom we have hired for this issue.

B) California Energy Commission

1. The CEC has scheduled a staff workshop for 23 July to discuss proposed new energy efficiency measures for residential and non-residential buildings.

ALA will be in attendance to protect industry interests.

2. ALA delivered testimony on Appliance Efficiency Enforcement in Sacramento last February and we have been tracking it closely. We expect the CEC will publish its first draft recommendations in mid-August.

We will have about 45 days to respond to proposals we find objectionable.

Annual Conference 14-16 Sept., Nashville, Tenn.

I encourage you, if you haven't done so, to register for our upcoming Annual Conference - it's only 60 days away.

My two key reasons for encouraging you to attend are:

1. The three General Sessions and 15 Seminars will be strong and beneficial to you and your business.

2. It will be my last conference as your president and CEO, and I look forward to being able to celebrate ALA's success over the last 21 years with you.

Best regards,

Dick Upton
