Let Gov. Baker know: People, not highways!

The Casey Arborway project will benefit MBTA riders, pedestrians, cyclists, and improve traffic flow for the vast majority of motorists. Click on the picture for all the reasons why.

In 2012, Jamaica Plain supported an at-grade version of the Arborway by a margin of 3-1, after an exhaustive 18-meeting community process. Ever since then, the minority who supported a bridge have spread alarmist literature throughout the city, not accepting that many of their neighbors value people, walking and biking over how fast cars can get through JP.

Tomorrow Bridging Forest Hills is hoping that our new Republican Governor, Charlie Baker, will turn against the neighborhood and build a typical girder bridge over Forest Hills (the kind used for highways everywhere). In their own words from an email sent by Bridging Forest Hills earlier this week:

"Hail Mary passes do work in football and with Republican governors in the past."

We need people from all over the city to be at tomorrow's meeting to block this pass and let Gov. Baker know that we feel walking, biking and economic development are bi-partisan issues that deeply affect our quality of life!

Casey Arborway Construction Meeting

Thurs., May 7, 7pm to 9pm

Boston English High School Auditorium

144 McBride Street

Jamaica Plain

Beers afterward at Doyle's!

If all goes well at this meeting, the bridge will close in the next two weeks and contractors will begin tearing it down to make way for a human-scaled boulevard, a new park the size of Copley Plaza, a new entrance to the Orange Line (no more crossing the street to get to the T!) and bike paths connecting Franklin Park, the Arboretum, and almost all the way to the new Harvest grocery store (and soon we'll extend that to Mattapan and Jamaica Pond).

Please show up and speak up to ensure a better future for Forest Hills parks, small businesses, and families! Let's cheer when they say the bridge is coming down!

ALSO:

If you're lucky enough to have time during the day, there is an all new MassDOT board that needs to hear that the majority of people in JP support the at-grade plan for Casey Arborway.

MassDOT Board Meeting

Wed., May 13, 1pm

State Transportation Building
MBTA Board Room, Suite 3830

10 Park Plaza

Boston

When you get there, SIGN UP TO SPEAK!

If you can't make these meetings, please contact Governor Baker and call his new MassDOT board at 617-222-3188.
