PTSA President Message

Parents, we are very much in need of more community involvement to make our school run properly. It takes more hands than we have. The PTSA is searching for more volunteers to attend monthly meetings, run small programs and fundraise. We have more ideas than people to run them. We need you.
We are still $3000 short of our goal of $13000 to fund currently slated programs for this school year. We need your help to reach this goal, otherwise we will have no choice but to cut some of the programs we have supported in the past.

Here is the list of the programs in danger of being cut:
-Shakespeare Play
-SAT/ACT prep
-Music grant
-Scholarship for students
-Classroom grants for teacher and staff needs, books, printers etc.
-Art support program
-Parent development classes

Please consider   joining and supporting PTSA, and encourage others to do the same. We are a very small group making decisions for this whole community. We value and appreciate your thoughts, attendance and support. Please contact me if you have questions.
Thank You,
Dr. Samsavar

Now that the 2016 bond passed for a new JHS, the district is in the design phase for a new campus. Brian Buck, in his fourth year in Facility Services, said the district will be having another community meeting tied to the design phase to receive input about the new building and the transition campus.

Message from the Principal

During the next month, we will be beginning student registration for the 2017-2018 school year, as we simultaneous get ready for the Class of 2021! You will be seeing course information and registration forms coming home with your son or daughter for you to review and sign.
This is a great opportunity for you to sit down with your son or daughter and discuss their academic plan for the next school year and in the years after high school. Registering for an Advanced Placement, Honors, or extra year of Math, Science, Art, Technology, or Language is a definite commitment of the additional time and effort necessary for success in these courses. It is also a good investment in the future and sets a foundation for advanced options and choices in the years ahead. We have a great tradition in our school of students setting sights on lofty goals, taking these commitments seriously and doing what it takes to extend themselves academically. These attributes are the very selfsame ones that both colleges and companies are looking for when they make their selections for candidates.
Please contact your student's counselor if you have questions regarding the choices your students would be able to make in the coming school year.
Registration is also an opportunity to discuss your student's extracurricular plans. Are they going to get involved with Athletics, Student Government, DECA, TSA, MUN, FBLA, Drama, Coding, Music, or one of our many other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities? As there is a high correlation between students' involvement in co/extra-curricular activities and their academic success, let's encourage them to get involved in at least one sport or activity during each school year.
Thanks as always for your continued support and partnership.
Best Regards,
Gary Moed

Senior Celebration
The Senior Celebration is trying to finalize the head count so please be sure to purchase tickets ASAP through the PTSA website.  A few chaperones are still needed.  Please contact Susie Shavey with any questions. It would be useful if a parent/s of a junior (class of 2018) would shadow the current Senior Celebration volunteers, to ensure a smooth event for next year's grads.

Emergency Preparedness
February Tips

Experts tell us we are 'overdue' for a major earthquake, but no one can predict whether it will happen in our lifetime.  Even so, home preparedness can help.

SUGGESTION:
Before An Earthquake:
Seismically safe guard your home, which includes anchoring bookcases and other tall items.  Keep shoes and gloves near your bed to use if a quake starts while you're asleep.  Have emergency kits ready.

During an earthquake: Duck-cover-hold on!  Protect your neck and torso. Stay away from windows (flying glass shards).
