With a series of videos, expanded online content and an event for new riders at its Ohio headquarters, the AMA is launching the  AMA Get Women Riding campaign. The program promotes motorcycling to women and girls.

"Although motorcycling is a fun and accessible choice, riders must prepare with respect to proper training, safety and, of course, bike considerations," says AMA Board of Directors Chair Maggie McNally-Bradshaw. "As true as that is for all motorcyclists, it's even more true for women riders. Women and girls face additional difficulties of finding bikes and gear that fit them, of getting certain salespeople to take them seriously and -- the big one -- overcoming the societal stereotype that motorcycling is something for men only. The AMA Get Women Riding campaign will help change that." Read more >>

Hate buying new tires? Hate changing them? It seems like you just mounted that new tire yesterday and the edges are already moving from razor sharp to soft edged, sloppy bumps. How can you ride like a hero with knobs that looks like they've gone five rounds with a belt sander?

Knobby Knife claims it can sharpen up those weary old lumps and make them hook up like new again. Being a cynic, I needed to see it to believe it.

So I took a tire that, after four rides, had definitely lost its edge (especially in the center). Knobby Knife came with four simple directions on the packaging. Nice! It went like this: Heat it up. Point the edge against the knob. Press down. Scoop out. How about that? It worked that easily. Read more >>

AMA highlights May as Motorcycle Awareness Month

W ith the beginning of Motorcycle Awareness Month on May 1, the AMA is issuing a special appeal to motorists to be aware of their driving environment, check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes and, especially, to watch for motorcyclists.

"The warmer weather in May brings out the riders who have been unable to ride all winter, so it presents an excellent opportunity for us to educate the non-riding public about the safety issues that affect motorcyclists every time we roll out of our driveways or onto a trail," says Rob Dingman, AMA president and CEO. "The AMA is monitoring more than 1,124 state and federal bills that would affect motorcycling safety or motorcyclists' rights, including many that deal with rider safety."  Read more >>

As part of the National Renewable Fuel Standard "Day of Action," organized by the Smarter Fuel Future coalition, the AMA lobbied members of Congress.

"We are committed to recruiting cosponsors for H.R. 704 -- the RFS reform bill -- and to seeing it passed this session," says Wayne Allard, AMA vice president for government relations. "At the same time, we are urging the EPA to propose a rule similar to, or the same as, the one issued in 2013." Read more >>
