The country's top racers from American Motorcyclist Association-sanctioned motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle competition were honored at the AMA Championship Banquet on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Aladdin Event & Conference Center in Columbus, Ohio. The AMA presented champions their 2014 AMA National No. 1 plates, recognized the season's best organizers and announced the 2014 AMA Athletes of the Year.

AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman congratulated the racers and their families on their success in 2014 and thanked them for their contributions to motorcycling.

"The riders, families, crew members and sponsors in this room tonight are what make AMA-sanctioned competition the greatest in the world," Dingman said. "Here, we recognize those who excel in the simplicity and ferocity of dirt track, the balance and control of trials, the speed and grace of road racing, the daring of motocross, the rush of hillclimb and land-speed competition, the endurance and variety of off-road racing, and the extreme demands of ice racing.

"Congratulations on your success in 2014, and thank you for your support of the AMA!" Dingman saidRead more >>

Gary Sutherlin earns first career National Hare & Hound victory

FMF KTM Factory Support rider Gary Sutherlin took his first career victory at the opening round of the AMA National Hare & Hound Series while his teammate Ivan Ramirez came from behind to also place on the podium in third position.

Sutherlin had the best jump off the start and took the lead at the end of the long bomb stretch. Ramirez was not as fortunate and collided with another rider off the start which caused Ramirez's leg to kick back and get stuck in the wheel. Although Ramirez did not crash in the incident, he did lose time removing his wedged leg and started last off the bomb. At the end of the stretch he had climbed to approximately 50th place.

Out front, Sutherlin continued to lead and came through the first pit stop after 36 miles of racing with a roughly 45 second lead. Ramirez had charged up through the dusty course to 12th place at the end of the first loop about 5 minutes off of the lead ride. Read More >>
