Letter From The President

Dear Members,

It has been an exciting month! For those of you who don't know, my name is Jessica Sward and I am the new AMTA-Florida Chapter President. We've also appointed two new board members who I am excited to have introduce themselves in this newsletter.

We have attended some recent Legislative meetings. You will receive an email with further information on what was discussed very soon. Please watch your inbox as this will be beneficial to review.

As a renewal year, Education Events have received the spotlight in 2017. Throughout the spring months we hosted two successful education classes: Clinical Orthopedic Manual Techniques with Joe Muscolino and Lymphatic Balancing with Jack Ryan. The remainder of summer will include Sports Massage with Mike McGillicuddy (fully booked), the complimentary to members Florida Required's course (fully booked), and Total Body Balancing with Jack Ryan at the Upledger Institute (link to Eventbrite tickets on sidebar). Remember to renew your license by August 31st!

We've begun planning the next annual meeting and are brainstorming how to reach out to members in 2018. Let us know if you have any creative ideas or would like to be involved with outreach. Please visit our website often and watch our Facebook page for Legislative updates and news on September's National Convention in Pasadena, California. Also watch your email for Massage Therapy Awareness week announcements.

Welcome Marc Juneau!

Dear members,


	Marc Juneau Board Member

My name is Marc Juneau and I am pleased to announce myself as a new board member and Marketing Chair for the Florida Chapter. I am extremely excited to bring my passion for massage therapy as well as knowledge and experience in Marketing together to represent the members.

I am already engaged in several projects designed to implement technology into our regular business and tasks, such as revamping the website; providing a new look and ease of use to allow our members, board and volunteers to stay in touch and become ev en more engaged within the community of the Florida Chapter. In regards to advancing technologically, we are considering a transition to an online voting system and ask you to provide us with comments and opinions regarding the change. I am also excited to collaborate with our lobbyist, meeting with state and federal legislators to discuss the future of Massage Therapy in the United States, with a focus on our region.

I will be attending the July Sports Massage event in Orlando and look forward to meeting some of you there. I look forward to serving the Florida Chapter members through my enthusiasm, capabilities and knowledge.

Welcome Jean-Pierre DeBarros!

Massage Awareness Week


	Jean Pierre DeBarros Financial Advisor Massage Awareness Chair

Dear members,

My name is Jean-Pierre DeBarros. I began volunteering with the AMTA Florida Chapter in 2016 as Massage Therapy Awareness Chair and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors as Financial Advisor. I've served on past boards in a similar position and am enthusiastic to offer my skills set concerning financial administration and planning to the Florida Chapter.

I have been in and around the hands-on medical field since 1990, with a extensive background in therapeutics and rehab. My massage therapy background complements my active duty career as a health care administrator within the U.S. Public Health Service. I am very passionate in assisting outreach to Florida communities and am eager to work with the Florida Chapter board to find more ways to serve members in all areas of Florida in 2018.

I am currently overseeing the planning and organization of the 21st Massage Therapy Awareness week coming up in October. You will soon receive an email with more information. Please contact me if you would like to participate in an event or volunteer your time in arranging more locations. I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved and look forward to serving the members of AMTA Florida.
