This unique collaboration will be evident at a group of groundbreaking two-day workshops at the non-profit Anatomy in Clay® Centers in Denver.
“These classes will rely on two proven techniques for learning anatomy, alternating back and forth between building clay onto model skeletal sculptures and examining the preserved cadaveric specimen,” said Anatomy in Clay® Founder Jon Zahourek. “We will build from inside-out and also examine outside-in, providing a fully immersive education. All anatomy students quickly realize both the profound reality of our anatomy, but also the beauty of its underlying simplicity.”
Dissection, said Zahourek, has long been considered the traditional “gold standard” of anatomy study. Over the past 25 years, the Anatomy in Clay® Learning System has been adopted for use in over 10,000 classrooms around the United States and has been validated through 17 published university and medical school studies. In the Anatomy in Clay® approach, students learn hands-on construction of anatomical forms. The end result is a three-dimensional model from clay. Research has demonstrated that the Anatomy in Clay® approach results in improved long-term retention when learning human anatomy. Colorado Learning Center of Human Anatomy (CLCHA) was designed as a community resource in education of human anatomy and physiology through the art of dissection. With prossection the participants will be able to compare the three dimensional model from superficial to deep. Anatomical cadaveric dissection allows participants to study the true form of anatomy through it's structure, function and integrated systems. The classes will be co-taught by Jon Zahourek and CLCHA founder Bev Boyer.
