Celebrate Ysyakh festival in Yakutsk...
Ysyakh festival, the traditional Yakut summer solstice celebration will be held in Yakutsk on June 29-30, 2013. This holiday is a celebration of the revival and renewal of the nature, fertility and beginning of a new year. It is accompanied by national Yakut rituals and ceremonies, folk dancing, horse racing, Yakut ethnic music and singing, national cuisine, and competitions in traditional Yakut sports. You will taste the legendary drink of the Yakut epic heroes - Kumys. Hand in hand with the holiday participants you will dance the traditional round dance "osuokhay" that symbolizes life cycle. Come to Ysyakh to celebrate and explore the rich culture of the Yakut people

How to get to Yakutsk: This summer, Yakutia Airlines has synchronized its weekly service on the Kamchatka-Magadan-Yakutsk route with its summer Alaska-Russian Far East Service. Passengers traveling east- or westbound can make convenient 2 hour connections at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, thus reducing the total travel time Anchorage-Yakutsk to under 13 hours. The service will be operated with one of the airline's new Bombardier Q-400 aircraft.

DISCOVER SEVEN WONDERS OF YAKUTIA
29 June-5 July, 2013 (7 days/6 nights)

Planet Yakutia Discover "Seven Wonders of Yakutia" with National Tour Operator "Planet Yakutia".

The City of Yakutsk: World's largest city on permafrost, founded in 1632. Explore Yakutsk and attend Ysyakh, the biggest traditional Yakut festival and celebration of the nature's revival and beginning of the new life cycle - Yakut New Year.

Lena Pillars Nature Park, an impressive chain of sharp-pointed rocks resembling pillars about 490-985 ft high, that extends for about 50 miles along the Lena River. Lena Pillars Nature Park has been recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Olonkho is a heroic epic tale of the Yakuts, declared as the world's oral and intangible masterpiece by UNESCO. It is performed by an Olonkho singer or story-teller.

Buluus: this non-melting glacier reforms every winter, thanks to an underground spring, and in the summer, in 90 degree F weather, the thickness of the ice reaches up to 3 meters (9.8 feet). For many visitors, a walk on this glacier is the experience of a lifetime.

White nights: June-July is a great time to see the Northern wilderness in its full glory and enjoy white nights when the sun sets over the horizon only for an hour or half an hour.

Mammoth is the second brand of Yakutia, after diamonds. The tusks and bones of mammoths are used traditionally in Yakutia to make souvenirs. There is a unique Mammoth Museum in Yakutsk that has one of the world's most diverse collections of exhibits from the Ice Age.

Permafrost: About 40% of Yakutia lies above the Arctic circle and all of it is covered by permafrost. There is a Kingdom of Permafrost in Yakutsk, an underground tourist attraction inspired by the extreme cold of Yakutia. The 150 meter deep (apprx. 492 feet) complex of tunnels in the Russian permafrost are decorated with hundreds of ice sculptures. Ask the staff for a chance to try a shot of vodka - from a shot glass made of ice.

HIDDEN TREASURES: COVE-TO-COVE HIKING IN PRIMORSKY KRAI BY CATHERINE TRAINOR

Primorsky Krai
Walk along the rocks of the edges of each cove, where starfish and sea anemones live in abundance. Photo: Catherine Trainor

Nakhodka, a city about four hours north of Vladivostok, is best known for its active port - but the most spectacular part of this area of Primorsky Krai is the small, nearby coves on the Sea of Japan. They are easily accessible by car, yet feel a world away. The beaches are naturally sandy and the water is warm enough to swim in during July and August.
