Aurora Public Schools Community:

Each year I look forward to the start of the school year. It is a joy to witness the excitement of our students and staff on the first days of school . This year, as is our tradition, community members joined us to welcome students back and encourage them to have a great year. Thank you to all of our gracious community greeters for taking the time to make our students feel special.

We are also kicking off this school year with promising news. The Colorado Department of Education recently released data from the 2017 statewide CMAS assessments. We are excited to see that Aurora Public Schools is increasing its momentum to improve student achievement across the district. Our growth scores are some of the highest our district has seen in years and we are seeing more consistent gains spread throughout APS. We are encouraged to see that our efforts to close the achievement gap and provide intensive supports to our English language learners are working. We recognize that we still have much work ahead of us. However, our data demonstrates that we are a school district that is reaching for and attaining new levels of success.

I would like to thank our incredible students, staff and families for their continued hard work. Let's keep the momentum going as we look forward to another school year full of learning and opportunity.

- Superintendent Rico Munn

Boston Bears Get their Paws on Free Amazon Kindles
There was an up roar from  Boston P-8 students when  Amazon  employees surprised them with $10,000 worth of Kindles and Kindle app gift cards! A team from Amazon's Aurora fulfillment center came marching into the school's first assembly of the year with large, orange-bowed boxes in hand.

When the employees revealed the contents, students were beside themselves. One student repeatedly yelled, "Are you kidding me?" in excitement. Eager to test out their fancy, new technology, students wasted no time in exploring the devices' apps and, of course, taking selfies with them to document the moment.

"We're excited to be part of the Aurora community," said Steve McDonnel, Site Leader of Amazon's Aurora fulfillment center. Instead of donating books to support learning, McDonnel highlighted the fact that students can now access 1,000 books in one Kindle.

What a way to start the school year! We welcome Amazon to the APS Family and thank them for being such a gracious community partner. These vital resources will surely help our  students shape successful futures .
